Carson City singer, songwriter, liver transplant recipient, and patient advocate Brother Dan Palmer has written and produced an infectious, timely and topical music video on behalf of The American Liver Foundation.

The Carson City School District will transition all secondary students to a Pass/Fail grading system for the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year. The decision comes as principals, instructional leaders, district-level administrators and members of the teachers’ union have discussed the extension of school closures following spring break.

Well before dawn, a kitchen crew arrives. Ovens are turned on; food is pulled for today’s meal. Sheet pans are lined, steam pans are filled. Hundreds of disposable cups, trays and lids line the countertops ready to be filled. The crew preps intuitively – they’ve done this many times before. The crew is the Carson City Senior Center. It’s just another morning at the Carson City Senior Center.

Evangeline Elston is an artist manager and booking professional who works with a small roster of eight touring Americana, roots, folks, country and jazz musicians and songwriters living all over the country, Nashville, Baltimore, Austin, Los Angeles, northern California and Lake Tahoe.

This is the time of the year when the summer concerts are announced, but that all came to a halt with the pandemic. However, one venue has elected to let music fans know what should be in store this summer.

Alana Ridge has been elected to the board of directors of NCET, a member-supported non-profit that produces educational and networking events to help people explore businesses and technology.

Wes McQuillen and Kyle Robertson have been re-elected to the NCET board.

Ridge, elected as NCET’s vice president of public relations, is a public relations and strategic communications professional in Reno, with a background spanning several industries -- from travel and tourism to the non-profit sector.

Carson City’s Leisure Hour Club recently donated $500 to KNVC community radio, 95.1 FM. The station was chosen as one of the club’s Outstanding Community Organizations earlier this year. The award was presented to Joe Bly, KNVC Program Director, at the station’s studios in Carson City.

He is the fearless leader of Carson High School, and he is taking his teachers through uncharted territory in order to guide them into successfully teaching and caring for their students during this time of uncertainty. His name is Gavin Ward, and he is doing a fantastic job as the Principal of CHS, being both available and supportive while encouraging teachers, students, and even parents to engage their students with much-needed health, hope and heterochromatic learning.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and at the close of the first week since Nevada Gov. Sisolak ordered school sites and non-essential businesses to close, what may not be known to the general public is the governor has identified public schools as an essential service.

School districts across the state have been working feverishly to develop a system of remote teaching and learning. This new method of holding school begins Monday, March 23.

As part of the Remote Learning or at-home lesson plans set to launch Monday, March 23, the Carson City School District has made a number of resources available on the carsoncityschools.com website. A Remote Learning page has been created to provide parents and students with weekly materials for elementary students.

Heading into Tuesday, sunny skies and more springlike weather are ahead before active weather patterns start up again later in the week. Activities lined up around the capital city include morning and evening walks hosted by Muscle Powered. You can join true crime, paranormal writer Janice Oberding at Nevada State Library and Archives for a brown bag luncheon. There's a meeting of the Carson Fly Fishing Club at the sheriff's office, a paint and sip night at Living the Good Life and you can join Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee for a 'Fate & Fortune' evening of music and poetry. The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association presents the third annual Northern Nevada CycleNation on June 4 at Reno City Plaza. The fundraiser begins at 5:30 p.m. and will include food trucks, yard games, and music. The stationary bike sunset ride begins at 6 p.m. and lasts for two hours. CycleNation is nationally sponsored by Amgen and is locally sponsored by Carson Tahoe Health.

“We did our free clinic at the Community Center, and what a turnout we had; around 100 participants showed up, we had a ton of fun, and we even had high school varsity players help coach the clinic as well” said Carson High School Varsity Basketball coach Jordan Glover.
