Carson City’s newest Mexican eatery will be officially opening this Monday, Jan. 18 in its new downtown home.

Owners Juan and Maria Salazar have been running the first location of Juan’s Mexican Grill for years inside the Comstock Casino and this new location, which took over the venue left vacant by Battle Born Social, will be their second.

This is not their first time serving up Mexican cuisine in the downtown area. Juan’s used to operate both inside the old Mo and Sluggo’s (now the Pourhouse) as well as the Horseshoe Club (now closed).

Carson City will be getting its very first Roberto's Taco Shop, a popular west coast Mexican cuisine restaurant with locations in northern and southern Nevada.

Dayton, Nev. – Stop by Healthy Communities Coalition’s headquarters at 209 Dayton Valley Road for free cooking demonstrations on September 25 and 26 anytime between 10am-2pm.

The public is warmly invited to learn more about Indian and Mexican fusion cuisine with Rupa, a passionate cooking instructor. She’ll demonstrate how to incorporate some of the ingredients at Healthy Communities’ Dayton Food Pantry into affordable and healthy dishes crackling with flavor.

Rivas Mexican Grill, the newest of nine locations total for the Mexican cuisine chain, is currently taking up residence in the vacant La Enchilada standalone restaurant at 557 Saliman Road in Carson City.

Let me tell you, downtown is going to be hopping, not to mention the Early Season Farmers Market making its seasonal debut in the parking lot at W. Musser and N. Nevada – just behind Due Sorella. Take the kids down to Bailys Pond at Fuji Park for the annual Tom Brooks Memorial Kids’ Fishing Day. A trip to the train museum comes with the opportunity to ride on the Historic McKeen Motor Car.

Take advantage of the spring sunshine and seize the day. Virginia City roars with the sound of their annual Grand Prix. Beer and brats aren’t usually associated with ballet, but the Sierra Nevada Ballet makes the annual event at the Brewery Arts Center a great time for all. The Earth Spirit Faire wraps up its weekend of wellness at the Community Center. Head to Reno for a Cinco De Mayo Celebration at the Grand Sierra that features musicians, cuisine, and carnival rides.

Hold on to your hat, the weekend is here. If it’s a cowboy hat, head over to Genoa for their annual Cowboy Festival. Plenty of free things to see, hear, and experience await. The annual Spring Earth Spirit Faire lets you celebrate Mother Earth with workshops, holistic practitioners, great vendors, and a raffle. It benefits the Heart to Heart School and Advocates to End Domestic Violence so it’s always worth checking out. Mexico has long been regarded by American palates as the standard-bearer of Latin American cuisine. That's something Jose Escobar hopes to change with La Santaneca, a restaurant he opened in Carson City 21 months ago to honor the food of his native El Salvador.

Besides quality food, what can often set a restaurant apart from others is its uniqueness. At The Naked Spice in north Carson City, diners get both.

In a shared space with La Posada Real at 3205 Retail Drive in the Wal-Mart Shopping Center off College Parkway, the two restaurants make a pairing that is as unexpected as it is unique.

Herb Schewe, Spanish teacher at Sierra Lutheran High School, treated his students to Mexican cuisine at El Charro Avita in Carson City on Wednesday as a reward for their hard work over the year.
