Obituary: Paul Hochsprung

Paul Donald Hochsprung, born Oct. 21, 1953, passed away at Carson Tahoe Hospital with his wife at his side on March 23, 2020, after a recent diagnosis of metastatic melanoma.

Carson Tahoe Health opens blood and bone marrow transplant care clinic

Carson Tahoe Cancer Center in Carson City opened a new blood and bone marrow transplant care clinic on Monday with support from the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah. Under the collaboration, a Bone Marrow Transplant physician and nurse from HCI will travel to Carson City once a month to treat patients both before and after they receive a transplant.

Community Goes to Bat for WNC Softball Player

If she didn't know it before, Melanie Pfeiffer learned on Sunday, June 12, just how warm and caring her community really is.

More than 140 participants were part of a 5-K run/walk/jog fundraiser on behalf of the Western Nevada College softball player who is battling melanoma skin cancer. The event raised $5,000 for Pfeiffer, who is without medical insurance. El Charro Avitia Restaurant in Carson City hosted the race venue and fed the participants afterward.

Playgrounds are a pure joy to watch. Children experiment and dream with unbridled optimism. One elementary school in Carson City, by itself, houses over 600 future teachers, healers and leaders. It is a parent’s best dream to envision a bright, healthy, productive future for our children.
