Carson City Health and Human Services briefing on Monday morning March 30 reports no additional cases of COVID-19 in the Quad County region: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. The total number of cases in the Quad-County region remains at 11.

On Saturday, March 27, the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation added system and staffing support to accommodate those who need login or PIN assistance, as individuals needing assistance to reset their UI login information or PIN has been the main issue individuals have been encountering when filing online at UI.nv.gov.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to be on the lookout for a Pleasant Valley man who has not been seen by family since early Thursday morning.

A 76-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for felony violation of a stalking order Thursday afternoon.

According to the report, Helen Donner Kelly was arrested after a call came in from the protected party stating that Kelly was parked out front of the party’s house. It was then reported that Kelly was standing in the driveway.

On March 27, 2020, at approximately 5:54 AM, a Nevada Highway Patrol Sergeant had stopped to assist a motorist on US-93 and White Pine county mile marker 106, north of Ely, NV. During this contact, the motorist open fired on Sgt. Ben Jenkins, who was struck and killed.

UPDATE 12:30 p.m.:

On March 27, 2020, at approximately 5:54 AM, a Nevada Highway Patrol Sergeant had stopped to assist a motorist on US-93 and White Pine county mile marker 106, north of Ely, NV. During this contact, the motorist open fired on Sgt. Ben Jenkins, who was struck and killed. The motorist stole the Sergeant’s uniform and fled the scene in Sgt. Jenkins’ patrol vehicle. Following a search that lasted several hours, the suspect, John Dabritz, a 65-year-old White Pine resident, was located and taken into custody with the assistance of multiple agencies.

Software engineer Derek Morgan, Democratic primary candidate for Assembly District 40, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon, being held online only for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Michael Moriarty took low gross honors with a 74 as the Sunday Men’s Club kicked off its season March 22 at Silver Oak Golf Course. The season was delayed because of bad weather the week prior, and play was in accordance with mandated health precautions.

Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. On March 23, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak signed an emergency order that prevents the prescription and hoarding of anti-malaria drugs to treat the novel coronavirus. The issue of choloroquine became political last week when President Trump falsely said choloroquine had been approved by the FDA to treat COVID-19.

A portion of Sonoma Park in Carson City, which has been closed since earlier this month for maintenance, will re-open Friday. The main grass area will be opened to the public and dogs on Friday, March 27 at 3 p.m. weather permitting.

Gov. Steve Sisolak made Nevada one of the first states to enter a state of partial lockdown last Tuesday as an emergency step meant to stem the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus, enforcing a closure of the state’s casinos and urging other non-essential businesses to close their doors for 30 days.

Due to the governor’s mandated steps to protect against the spread of COVID-19, the Board of Trustees of the Carson City School District will hold tonight’s School Board meeting online and would like community members to have access to participate.

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation (DETR) is requesting those employers who will close before the end of March to submit their first quarter 2020 Employer’s Contributions and Wage Reports as soon as possible. Employers can utilize online services for filing and making payment. The advanced timeline applies only to reporting, with payment of any taxes not due until April 30, 2020.

Three were arrested Saturday for suspicion of child neglect and endangerment among other charges after a baby was brought into the hospital emergency room for ingesting methamphetamine, a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team arrest report states.
