Honor Veterans

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Inc. (RSVP) is hosting their 2nd Annual Veterans Pancake Breakfast at the Carson City Elks Lodge. The Veterans Pancake Breakfast is a free breakfast event for senior veterans.

Historic Virginia City has always placed a strong emphasis on supporting those who have served our country. A walk down the wooden board sidewalks demonstrates this in the many memorial flags of those who gave their lives in service. Because honoring our veterans is so important, Virginia City will be holding a Veterans Day Cruise this Wednesday, Nov. 11 beginning at 11 a.m. on C Street.

Heading into Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019, events around the capital city include a Polka Dot Powerhouse lunch connect at Red's Old 395 Grill, "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, the Navy League capital city chapter will celebrate veterans at its monthly meeting held at Gold Dust West, the Carson City School District seeks public input on its Strategic Plan at a community meeting, plus art showings, classes and more.

Honoring those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, Veteran's Day is Monday, Nov. 11 with a number of events happening around the capital city and Northern Nevada which began this week and will continue through Tuesday.

Heading into the Veterans Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days. Events include live comedy, art and heater, multiple holiday craft fairs around Carson City and Carson Valley as well as several Veterans Day ceremonies and offers of gratitude to vets and active duty members of the U.S. military on Monday. We will also pay tribute to our MIA’s and POW’s and celebrate both the Navy and Marine Corps birthdays. Our speaker for the Special Veteran’s Day celebration will be Captain Evan Morrison, Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station Fallon.

Among the events and activities today include continued voting to bring the Levitt AMP concert back to Carson City this summer, a Silver and Blue Nevada rivalry blood drive, a volunteer meeting for Toys for Tots; a showing of "Casino Boss" that was filmed this summer at the Carson Nugget starring SNL Alum Jose Piscopo, a visit by Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift in Dayton, art showings and more.

Our speaker for the Special Veteran’s Day celebration will be Captain Robert Wiley, Retired, who was the first Master of the USNS Carson City, T-EPF 7.

The Moving Wall, a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C., will visit Douglas County for the first time next spring.

Honoring our Veterans is the theme for the Tuesday, November 21st meeting of the Carson City Republican Women's luncheon held at the Carson Nugget. Our guest speaker is John Yuspa, Founder and CEO of Honor Flight Nevada.

On Wednesday, May 17, members of the Leisure Hour Club will experience some of the amazing stories created by the Ageless Aviation Foundation.

About a dozen military veterans and their families were honored Wednesday afternoon at Sierra Place Senior Living in Carson City by the state of Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NVDS) and the Municipality of Carson City.

Captain Wiley assumed this command on January 16, 2016 when the USNS Carson City was christened at Austal USA Shipyards in Mobile, Alabama.

Western Nevada College Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of three new scholarships to benefit veteran students attending Western Nevada College. These scholarships, generously funded by Frontier Communications out of Gardnerville, are designed to encourage postsecondary education among the local veteran population.

A car wash is being held Friday afternoon in southeast Carson City to help a Redding, California youth ensure that unattended veterans' graves receive the honor and love they deserve.

Veterans Day Parades will be held in Virginia City and Reno on Wednesday. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Virginia City holds its annual Veterans Day Parade to honor those who have served and currently serve our country.

Snow fell last night on display created by students at Carson Middle School to honor veterans in advance of Veterans Day holiday tomorrow.

CASI's Salute and Thank You to Veterans Bingo CASI will honor veterans with 1/2 price buy-in ($5) All veterans will receive a special "goodie bag" plus a free hot dog or bowl of soup and a drink as our way of saying THANK YOU. We will also be having fun raffle prizes and cake and ice cream for all players.Bingo buy-in is $10 with extra packs at $5 all additional games are extra. Doors open at 11:30 games start at 12:30. Snack bar available. Must be 21 to play.

In early morning fog on Sunday, July 20, 2014, a team of six riders began a 70-day long journey across the U.S. to bring awareness and support to today’s wounded warriors and their families. The 2014 Cause Warrior Ride Team will stop in over 70 cities and towns along the route to historic West Point in New York. They arrived in Dayton, NV on Friday, July 25, departing the following morning.

Many events are scheduled throughout the Silver State in the month of May. These Nevada 150 events help celebrate all things Nevada and bring awareness to the state’s 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following are events held between May 2 and May 15.

On Friday there is a unique way to remember and honor area veterans this Memorial Day weekend. The Carson Nugget is sponsoring a Bingo event on Friday, May 25 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room.

The profits from the event will be donated to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Carson Area Chapter 388. The group is hoping to raise $10,000 to bring the Traveling Vietnam Wall tribute to Mills Park for the inaugural celebration of “Battle Born Days” in Carson City in October.

In honor of Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day, High Sierra Swing Dance Club presents a USO-style “dime-a-dance” party to honor veterans and servicepeople May 19 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City. There will be a lesson at 7 p.m., with the social dance at 8-10:30 p.m. Men may purchase tickets for 10 cents a dance (or 12 tickets for $1). Between 8 and 9 p.m., each time you dance with a different woman, give her a ticket, which will be entered into a 9 p.m. drawing for raffle prizes.
