RSVP hosts 2nd annual Veteran's Day pancake breakfast at Carson City Elks Lodge

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Inc. (RSVP) is hosting their 2nd Annual Veterans Pancake Breakfast at the Carson City Elks Lodge. The Veterans Pancake Breakfast is a free breakfast event for senior veterans.

Virginia City to honor veterans Wednesday with Veterans Day Cruise

Historic Virginia City has always placed a strong emphasis on supporting those who have served our country. A walk down the wooden board sidewalks demonstrates this in the many memorial flags of those who gave their lives in service. Cause Warrior Ride Passes Through Dayton, Northern Nevada

In early morning fog on Sunday, July 20, 2014, a team of six riders began a 70-day long journey across the U.S. to bring awareness and support to today’s wounded warriors and their families. The 2014 Cause Warrior Ride Team will stop in over 70 cities and towns along the route to historic West Point in New York. They arrived in Dayton, NV on Friday, July 25, departing the following morning.

On Friday there is a unique way to remember and honor area veterans this Memorial Day weekend. The Carson Nugget is sponsoring a Bingo event on Friday, May 25 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room.

The profits from the event will be donated to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Carson Area Chapter 388. The group is hoping to raise $10,000 to bring the Traveling Vietnam Wall tribute to Mills Park for the inaugural celebration of “Battle Born Days” in Carson City in October.

Dime-a-dance USO-style party

In honor of Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day, High Sierra Swing Dance Club presents a USO-style “dime-a-dance” party to honor veterans and servicepeople May 19 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City. There will be a lesson at 7 p.m., with the social dance at 8-10:30 p.m. Men may purchase tickets for 10 cents a dance (or 12 tickets for $1). Between 8 and 9 p.m., each time you dance with a different woman, give her a ticket, which will be entered into a 9 p.m. drawing for raffle prizes.
