Parade and carnival, Pow Wow, pancakes and more: Carson City set for Nevada Day weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region Friday through Sunday to celebrate Nevada Day. Activities include the annual parade down Carson Street, a carnival at Mills Park, the 30th annual Nevada Day Classic, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, beard and rock drilling contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit kids and adults of all ages.

Thursday events around Carson City include art showings, hike and family carnival night at Mills Park

Counting down the hours until the Nevada Day weekend celebration begins, we're heading into Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 with sunny skies in the forecast through Sunday. Thursday opens the first of the four-day annual RSVP Nevada Day Carnival at Mills Park with $1 ride family night hosted by Carson City Toyota. Other activities around the capital city include a Muscle Powered afternoon hike, art showings, library activities, a gold and silver rush presentation at the Nevada State Museum and more.

Make a Difference in Someone's Life

Nevada Rural Counties RSVP program is seeking a part-time homemaker to provide assistance to Carson City Seniors in need of essential homemaker services.

Homemakers are contract employees who can earn $10 an hour for approximately 20 hours a week.

Duties include homemaker and chore assistance with housekeeping such as dusting, kitchen and bathroom cleaning, floor maintenance, laundry and linen changing for individuals 60 and older.

2019 is the 34th Year RSVP will host the Annual Nevada Day Carnival in Carson City,
a benefit for RSVP’s volunteer driver program, respite care, homemaker services and other lifesaving volunteer programs that help seniors maintain their dignity, self-respect and independence.

RSVP partners with Carson City Sheriff's Office to bring Christmas packages to troops

For more than 43 years, the Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has been serving the rural counties of Nevada with community volunteer opportunities. This year they decided to focus their holiday spirit on veterans and military personnel with a “Christmas Packages to our Troops” donation.

Evelyn Dorothy Bird, a native Nevadan, passed from this life on June 4, 2015. She was born February 21, 1921, to German immigrant parents on their Carson City ranch. Evelyn married Jack Graham Bird Sr. in 1938. Together they raised cattle, turkeys, and bummer lambs on what is now known as the Silver Saddle Ranch. They also raised six children. Evelyn was a loving mother, homemaker and avid gardener.

RSVP Spring Fun Fair returns to Mills Park this weekend

For the 30th year, the Nevada Rural Counties Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Inc. (RSVP) will sponsor the Spring Fun Fair and Carnival at Mills Park this Thursday, May 7 through Sunday, May 10.

The carnival opens at 5 pm on Thursday and Friday, at 2 pm on Saturday and Noon on Sunday. All proceeds go toward services for Carson City seniors designed to assist them to remain independent and in their own homes with dignity.

RSVP prepares to bring world class July 4 fireworks show to Carson City

UPDATE: With the July 4 holiday weekend approaching, Nevada Rural Counties RVSP is planning a spectacular fireworks celebration over Carson City to go along with its 22nd annual holiday carnival at Mills Park.

RSVP seeks local musicians and vendors for July 4 celebration

For the 22th year, the Nevada Rural Counties Retired Senior Volunteer Program, also known as RSVP, will sponsor the July 4th celebration at Mills Park, Carson City, July 3-6, 2014. The highlight of the event will include a spectacular Independence Day pyrotechnic display at dusk.

Local musicians and bands are encouraged to apply to play in one of four openings scheduled for Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6. All music genres are welcome but must be suitable for a family-friendly event and contain no offensive lyrics or stage show.

Carson City couple face child neglect charges; home filled with excrement, moldy food

A Carson City couple face criminal charges of child endangerment after authorities found a baby crawling around in an apartment filled with trash, moldy food, pet and chinchilla excrement.
Katherine Denise Martin, 20 and Grant Austin, 21, each faces gross misdemeanor child neglect and endangerment charges after Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies made the May 28 discovery at the College Parkway apartment. Bail has been set at $2,500 each.
