Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Virginia City will kick off its Candy Cane Express and Train of Lights on Friday with all day train rides. Small Business Saturday will begin in downtown Carson City with COVID-19 restrictions put in place. Combined with pool tournaments at Bulldog Billiards and live music at Living the Good Life, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement! Read on for more information.

The spirit of Christmas is in the air as we head into the final stretch of the work week. Thursday events around the capital city feature an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a Carson City tradition with the return of Joyful Noise Holiday Community Show at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! Silver City Arts group's Saturday, Dec. 7 holiday event from noon to 4pm includes music by cellists Diane Kotik and Becky Crowe, a holiday craft activity for all ages led by Erich and Chali Haugen, and complimentary sweets.

The event also includes opportunities to buy unique gifts made by Comstock locals. Some of the items for sale include:

It’s a holly, jolly Christmas! Cherie Shipley and Lake Tahoe Entertainment present the 17th Annual Community Holiday Show “JOYFUL NOISE.”

The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1975 announced Tuesday the return of Big Bad VooDoo Daddy and its Wild & Swingin’ Holiday Party that will be featured at Casino Fandango’s new Grand Ballroom on Dec. 4.

Time to make some joyful noise in the capital city. The annual community holiday show at the Brewery Arts Center features John and Cherie Shipley, with the special addition of the Joyful Noise Children’s Chorus. These chilly December evenings are perfect for checking out the lights and decorations around the area. Candy Cane Lane, the drive-thru display at Carson Valley Inn in Minden, runs every night. Nevada Christmas, a private home in the Stephanie Way neighborhood, goes all out with a light show that’s choreographed to music.

The Carson City area is awash in entertainment, shopping, and family-friendly options this weekend. Santa Claus is popping up all over, including at Benson Feed for the annual CASI Pet Photos with St. Nick and aboard the train at our Railroad Museum’s Santa Train. The musical ‘Honk, Jr’ for the young ones and Love/Sick for the older crowd are on the stage at the Brewery Arts Center. Spend the day at the Silver Saddle Ranch: their annual Holiday Open House is the perfect time to explore their trails and learn more about the working ranch’s preservation.

Carson City Art Gallery is hosting a holiday show on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 1 to 5 p.m. Artists will be on hand to talk about their work and answer any questions you may have. A very special 10 percent discount is available to anyone that asks for it during this holiday show.

“Peanutcracker – The Story In A Nutshell,” is a kid-sized version of the holiday classic, “The Nutcracker,” told in 45-minutes by 50 local school school children. Performed by Sierra Nevada Ballet, there will be performances Friday and Saturday at the Carson City Community Center.

Tis the season for visits with Santa, holiday twinkle lights, and craft fairs and festivals. Celebrate the classic film and our classy library with an afternoon showing of the movie. Join Cherie Shipley at the Brewery Arts Center; the annual ‘Joyful Noise’ Community Holiday Show is full of cheer for all ages. Our high school and middle school student orchestras invite you to their free winter concert at the Community Center this evening. Living the Good Life welcomes singer/songwriter Liam Kyle Cahill back to their stage tonight.

Aside from some heartfelt traditional songs, there is the annual “Christmas Conga” a “Louisiana Christmas Day” experience, and a trip down memory lane with RETRO holiday songs from the 60’s!

The spirit of Christmas comes to life as the 17 piece Reno Jazz Orchestra and Pat Ester’s Gospel Choir brings Christmas favorites, jazz, and soul — with a few surprises mixed in — for three performances of feel good, ‘get ready for the holidays’ music and song.

Deck the halls with broken tree branches; the wind, she is a-blowin’. Hopefully we get some snow out of all of this bluster. Tonight is a good time for some ‘Joyful Noise,’ the 14th Annual Community Holiday Show at the Brewery Arts Center.
