Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. A living nativity scene will be featured at First United Methodist Church on Saturday and Sunday. Combined with train rides in Virginia City, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement. Carson City Elks No. 2177 put on a Children’s Christmas party for local foster children and their parents on Dec. 14 at the Governor’s mansion. Santa was there to take pictures with the children and pass out stockings with toys and candy inside of them. Mrs. Claus passed out candy canes.

Bid farewell to Autumn, because today is the first full day of Winter.

This is also the last weekend before Christmas Day, which means the last Santa Trains of the season at the Nevada Railroad Museum. Santa Claus also leaves his North Pole headquarters at the Carson Mall Sunday in preparation for his big night.

All are invited to a Holiday Party at the Brewery Arts Center Ballroom on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Great Basin Beekeepers of Nevada, a group of about one hundred local beekeepers, gathered Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Bee Magic Building located in Mound House. Through the efforts of this dynamic organization, Carson City was recently designated as Nevada’s first Bee City USA. It is the 76th Bee City USA.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Nevada state capital, and there is no shortage of holiday events and activities to make the season bright.

Held in the new Casino Fandango ball room, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s Wild n Swingin’ Holiday Party is sure to be a great way to kick off the month of December.

Tickets are moving fast for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s “Wild and Swingin’ Holiday Party!” at Casino Fandango in Carson City on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Presented by the Brewery Arts Center, the highly anticipated event will be the first concert at the casino’s new Grand Ballroom, which held its official ribbon-cutting in early November. The show begins at 7 p.m.

The Carson City Historical Society will hold their annual Holiday Party at the Bliss Mansion, located at 608 Elizabeth St. on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 1 to 3 PM. A light buffet lunch will be catered by A Catered Affaire, consisting of salads, sandwiches and desserts.

Robert Nylen, Curator of History at the Nevada State Museum will give an informative talk on The Carson City Mint Building: A Community Icon – approaching 150 years old in 2020.

There will also be a report on the activities and accomplishments of the Carson City Historical Society for the past year.

The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1975 announced Tuesday the return of Big Bad VooDoo Daddy and its Wild & Swingin’ Holiday Party that will be featured at Casino Fandango’s new Grand Ballroom on Dec. 4.

The rumors of Santa Claus coming to town are true. The jolly old man is making several appearances today, and is feeling photogenic. Take a ride with him at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, join him on the ‘Elf Crawl’ from the Capitol to the Carson Mall, or tell him your wish list at Debug Computers. Adults have a hard choice to make: the monthly downtown wine walk and the Holiday with a Hero Pub Crawl both take place today, and I’m not sure I’d recommend attempting both.

Perennial holiday favorite “The Nutcracker” by the Pinkerton Ballet Theatre returns to Carson City Thanksgiving weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 25-27. Featuring Erica Chipp of the Smuin Ballet in San Francisco as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Oliver Adams of Diablo Ballet in Concord, CA as Cavalier, this 28th year of performances is not to be missed.

Winter weather can cause more issues than we can sometimes bear. Wet and icy roadways combined with our need to get from point A to point B as quickly as we can, often times leads to vehicle crashes.

What initially began as a holiday party for Carson Tahoe Health employees and their families has grown to include organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada through the efforts of the CTH events committee headed by Kayleen Fogleman, director of supply chain management.

CTH provided treats and activities, including decorating enormous sugar cookies, writing letters to Santa, mingling with Carson City firefighters and a visit with Santa at the annual Carson Tahoe Health Kids Christmas Party in the main hall of the hospital Dec. 10.

Featuring Erica Chipp of the Smuin Ballet in San Francisco as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Maykel Solas as Cavalier, this 27th year of performances is not to be missed.

With Nevada Day festivities Saturday, Halloween trick or treating in Carson City is celebrated Friday. It’s different, sure, but that’s how we do things here in the capital city. With that in mind, drinking and driving can be a ghastly decision that can end up being more of a trick than a treat. The witches’ brew that you consume can lead to a frightening crash when you choose to drive afterwards.

When the Carson City Chamber purchased the share of the building previously occupied by the visitors bureau, they found themselves with extra space that once housed the visitor center and gift shop operated by the bureau.

What to do with that extra space was the question. Since that vacant space was always operated as a gift shop, the Chamber decided to operate an artisan shop to showcase local talented artists and provide them with yet another outlet to sell their unique art.

Ice skating enthusiasts of all ages burned off Thanksgiving dinner and then some Friday by lacing up the blades and getting their axels, spirals and swizzles in overdrive at Carson City's Arlington Square Ice Rink for the opening day.

Time to dig out the blades from the garage, lace them up and head to downtown Carson City for a frosty, icy wintertime tradition.

The Arlington Square Ice Rink will skate its way into the 2013-2014 season beginning Friday, Nov. 29. The facility is located at the corner of North Carson Street and West Robinson Street across from the Carson Nugget. The facility offers skate rentals, a warming tent, snacks and beverages and plenty of thrills for the family.

The Carson City Democratic Women's Club will be having a Holiday Party, in lieu of a business meeting. There will be a wonderful buffet. Cost for the buffet is $17.00 Pay at the door but please call 841-3367 to reserve the meal.

There will be games and prizes and general Holiday Fun! All Democrats, friends and spouses are invited. Please bring a donation for one of the community programs we support or a can of food.
