A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday morning for suspicion of attempted sexual assault, child endangerment and other offenses, a sheriff's deputy report states.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Work has begun on two phases of the 3.86-mile long South Tahoe Greenway Shared-Use Trail (Greenway) that will connect Sierra Boulevard in Tahoe Sierra Tract to the Van Sickle Bi-State Park near Stateline in South Lake Tahoe.

During the COVID-19 crisis, real estate transactions are still happening. People are still looking to buy homes and others are still hoping to get theirs sold.

Carson Medical Group said Wednesday in a Facebook post that some of its employees were exposed to the COVID-19 virus. The medical group, established in 1974 in Northern Nevada, has locations in Carson City, Reno and Minden and employs more than 180 people.

Leaders from Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties, known as the Quad-Counties, continue to coordinate closely with Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS), the local health authority for the Quad-Counties, to monitor and respond to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic.

Regent Sam Lieberman passed away Friday morning, according to Nevada System of Higher Education officials. He was 58.

No other information was immediately available.

“We were devastated to learn of Sam’s death,” NSHE Chancellor Thom Reilly said in a statement. “He was so passionate about Nevada’s public higher education system and he cared very deeply about bettering our system for our students.”

Lieberman took office as a Board of Regents member, representing District 5 in Clark County, in 2015. Last month, he had filed for re-election.

On Thursday, a sobering post began circulating through social media. Abby, a Carson City resident, believes she has COVID-19, and her doctor told her she is presumed to have it. However, because of a lack of tests available, she and many others like her are unable to be tested for the rapidly-spreading, potentially fatal virus.

Sierra Lutheran High School has launched a COVID Care site to assist the community by providing a single source of commonly-searched resources and information on coronavirus topics to one site for ease of access.

As most of us in Nevada are starting out our second week of being socially distant and staying at home for Nevada, some of us may be starting to feel the mental effects of being isolated. We may feel lonely, tired of our isolation mates (no matter how much we love our families), and/or craving the social connection that comes from going to our jobs and offices as we work from home and remotely or not working due to being classified as non essential.

Gov. Steve Sisolak made Nevada one of the first states to enter a state of partial lockdown last Tuesday as an emergency step meant to stem the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus, enforcing a closure of the state’s casinos and urging other non-essential businesses to close their doors for 30 days.

As Governor Steve Sisolak, Nevada state government officials, public health authorities, hospitals, and medical providers all work together to prepare, test, treat, and slow the spread of COVID-19, there are measures we can all take to reduce our risk of contracting the virus and keep our families and communities healthy.

Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting a third positive case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. This is the third case reported in the Quad County region: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties.

Gov. Steve Sisolak’s request Tuesday night for all non-essential businesses in the state, including casinos, to close their doors for 30 days in order to avoid further spread of the novel coronavirus has been met with some confusion over what is and isn’t an “essential” business.

The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association presents the third annual Northern Nevada CycleNation on June 4 at Reno City Plaza. The fundraiser begins at 5:30 p.m. and will include food trucks, yard games, and music. The stationary bike sunset ride begins at 6 p.m. and lasts for two hours. CycleNation is nationally sponsored by Amgen and is locally sponsored by Carson Tahoe Health.

Carson Tahoe Health (CTH) is unveiling several “Karma Boxes” (wooden/Plexiglas donation cabinets) at its various locations to house toiletries, first-aid items, and nonperishable foods for those in need, all available at any time and at no cost.

This simple, yet powerful concept is best summed up by its slogan, “If it’s empty, fill it. If you need it, it’s yours.”

The Carson City Board of Supervisors held a discussion regarding a wastewater and water rate increase in order to fund critical projects such as the Quill Treatment Plant, which had provided 50 percent of the water for the city as a whole and now is not being fully utilized due to needing upgrades and rehabilitation.

According to Shannon Cord with the Carson City Historical Society, the historic Adele’s building will not be saved despite the efforts of many volunteers and contributors.

The historic building suffered a fire in 2019 that, due to smoke damage and insurance issues, was not able to be recovered. It was set for demolition, until a group of activists form the Carson City Historical Society sought to save the building and have it moved to a new location.

Heading into the first Thursday in March and we're looking at continued sunshine with a high near 70. Happenings lined up include a Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting, auditions for the Carson City Follies show in July, trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a wood design workshop at Rustically Divine, an artist reception for Galen Brown and Emily Kray at Western Nevada College and a Muscle Powered afternoon hike. The Michael Furlong Band will rock the Fuji Park Exhibition Hall in Carson City at "A Face in the Crowd," a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tribute show this Saturday night, March 7. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the band will keep Tom Petty fans on the dance floor until the show wraps up at 10 p.m.
