It's a Holiday Treat for all and a feast of seasonal and holiday entertainment in many styles. The Carson City Symphony and Carson Chamber Singers, joined by the Victorian Dancers, present the 36th annual Holiday Treat concert this Sunday, Dec. 15 at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center.

Announcing Temple Bat Yam's 3rd annual Vodka & Latkes event: Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Temple Bat Yam in South Lake Tahoe.

In the final stretch of the work week, today is Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018. For those keeping score, there are four days of Hanukkah remaining, we are 19 days away from Christmas and 26 days until 2019. Here's what's happening today:

The spirit of Christmas and Hanukkah come to life as the 18-piece Reno Jazz Orchestra (RJO) presents, “A World of Joy,” featuring holiday music from the U.S. to Brazil, Puerto Rico, Israel, Russia, Austria and back.

Joining the RJO is Pat Esters' Gospel Choir, starring vocalists Pat Esters, Lori Johnson, David Wells, and Caitlin Collins. The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra will open the show at the Reno performances.

The first shows are Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Cargo Concert Hall at Whitney Peak Hotel in Reno.

Many joys come with Christmas and the holiday season. Good food, the company of family and friends, observing the joy of children opening presents, good music and the anticipation of the new year to name just a few.

A special aspect of the season for us is the spirit of giving. We use this time to provide more help than usual for both folks less fortunate and for charitable organizations that do good works in our communities. We know we are blessed to have the means to do so.

I’m always surprised at how busy Tuesdays can get around here. Every week you can discover a new trail with Muscle Powered, get your boot-scootin’ boogie on at Carson Lanes, or test your trivia knowledge at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint and at the Fox Brewpub. Today, however, you can also enjoy the monthly Mile High Jazz Band gig at Comma Coffee, with a special serving of poetry. Christmas Beers are on tap at Cowboy Liquors for their weekly tasting event.

With December arriving we are counting the days until Christmas. So deck the halls, get some jingle bells and wassail away this holiday season. Here's what's happening now through Christmas around Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton and Virginia City areas.

The Carson Mall is pleased to invite all of you to a series of “events within an event.” During the Carson Mall Christmas Craft Fair, running through December 24th, there will be several limited-time events.

Tis the season for visits with Santa, holiday twinkle lights, and craft fairs and festivals. In order to make your December planning a little easier, take a look at what is coming up in the Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton, and Virginia City area. Go deck the halls, get some jingle bells, and wassail away.

Just one last week to go until Hanukkah and Christmas. The Carson Mall is jam-packed full of crafters and unique shops for some of your last-minute gift purchases. Hop in the car and take a tour of the brightly lit downtown and houses throughout the area. Kids will enjoy decorating a cookie at Genoa Candy and Coffee in Carson Lanes; you may as well get there early and bowl a few games first.

Oh baby, it’s cold outside. Jack Frost seems to be working overtime this weekend, bringing temperatures that will barely rise above freezing. I suggest some hot cocoa. Join Santa at Adele’s for pictures, cookies, and something warm to drink, just remember to bring an unwrapped toy to donate.

I’m writing this before Thanksgiving and stores have been decorated for the holidays with their red, green, silver, gold and white HO HO HO wares for weeks now. Christmas is only a month away and Hanukkah begins December 24.

Time to get your last minute shopping finished and get those yummy smelling goodies in the oven. There are still some fun things happening around town, so grab the kids or a special someone and have yourself a holly, jolly time.

As we celebrate Christmas this year, let us remember again together that we are celebrating the birth of a Jewish Rabbi named Jesus. Many Christians and Jews dispute this fact of history. They tell me that one can be Jewish or Christian but all must choose between Christianity or Judaism. Yet when I revisit history, I realize that I am both Christian and Jew by following the teachings of a Jewish Rabbi. If you think about it, you may agree that most Christians are Christian-Jews that have forgotten history.

As a fundraiser, the Carson High School Choral Group in Carson City will be available as entertainment for holiday parties. The group will perform selections of Christmas and Hanukkah music.

The funds that are collected will help the students be able to travel to competitions and provide scholarships to students in the program.

Today we celebrate the birth of a Jewish Rabbi. We celebrate the renewal of hope that the world may one day learn from the greatest teacher that ever lived. For his billion Christian followers, as Christian/Jews, we also celebrate the birth of the Christ, the messiah, the son of God. During this celebration, the world shall receive the greatest gift.

The Carson City Symphony presents the 29th annual Holiday Treat concert on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The Symphony will be joined by the newly formed Carson City Symphony Chorus and the Victorian Dancers. Pre-concert entertainment begins at 3 p.m. Conducted by David Bugli, the symphony will perform several works of Christmas and Hanukkah music. The Carson High School Chamber Choir - the most advanced group of choir students at the high school - gave an impromptu, and much applauded, selection of Christmas and Hanukkah music to the surprised (and delighted) patrons and employees of the Department of Motor Vehicles this Thursday afternoon. This is the third year they have appeared at the DMV.
