Grab your chair or blanket and enjoy great music tonight at the Governor's Mansion
Submitted by editor on Sat, 08/16/2014 - 9:41amThe USAF Golden West Winds, a division of the USAF Golden Band of the West, will entertain Saturday evening, August 16, in the beautiful backyard of the Governor’s Mansion beginning at 6:30 pm.
The concert is free and gates open at 5:30 p.m. The Carson City Elks will be on hand to serve beer, wine and a light supper. Or, bring your own.
Please be sure to bring a blanket or chair. Come early for best seating. The event is being sponsored as a community service by the Carson City Chamber and the Carson City Elks. Veterans are encouraged to attend.
Nevada celebrates Sesquicentennial with August event lineup

Douglas County requests State of Emergency for cumulative flash flooding
Submitted by editor on Tue, 08/12/2014 - 8:08amThe Douglas County Board of Commissioners have requested a State of Emergency due to the cumulative series of flash floods that have taken place since July 20, 2014, in Douglas County. The cumulative series of floods has now exceeded the county’s resources, and the declaration will allow for help with repairing public infrastructure such as County Maintained roads, culverts, and drainage.

The recent flash flood event in north eastern portion of the Johnson Lane, Central Johnson Lane, and Fish Springs areas of the county was a significant event that many would think would warrant a disaster declaration.

The ticketed party features music, finger foods by Carson City Confections, wine, beer, and a raffle. Festivities run from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Statewide contest begins for final Nevada Sesquicentennial medallion

This medallion, the final in the series of four being produced throughout the year, will feature the winning design voted on by Nevadans. Voting begins today, Wednesday, July 23, which marks 100 days until Nevada Day, and ends Thursday, August 7, 2014.

These are the kids who raise the animals so lovingly, yet are willing to release them for sale. These are the kids now bringing attention to the farm-to-table movement and are learning the value of a job well done.
As the late Whitney Houston sang, “I believe children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way.”
4-H clubs were formed to teach our children the importance of agriculture and to learn new ways to better farm or raise their animals.
Ceremony at capitol Friday to honor 100th anniversary of USS Nevada launch

A reception honoring the battleship USS Nevada and her fallen crew will follow in Old Assembly Chambers.

Volunteers Adrianne S. Harris and George M. Allen asked Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval if he could provide a signed autograph on something that can be sold at the silent auction. The governor agreed and his secretary presented the volunteers a limited edition 12-inch by 14-inch print by Reno artist Roy Powers. The print is of the Governor's mansion.

Push America Cyclists to Visit Western Nevada College

This in reply to Mr. James O. Hartman’s letter to the editor in the May 21st issue of the RC. Mr. Hartman, I will address you in the first person in this reply. Facts are stubborn things.
Let me be clear that I draw a parallel to your reporting in the RC opinion page with what in the 30’s was called yellow journalism. Use of the journalism in the same sentence with your name does a disservice to journalists everywhere even those in the mainstream.

Forest Service identifies 10 priority areas in Nevada to reduce wildfire risk

Responding to a provision in the new Farm Bill, Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval had asked Tidwell to designate the watersheds and eight other areas for forest health projects.
