Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Steam train rides in Carson City and Virginia City will be available Saturday through Sunday. The Carson Canyon Railbike Tours will run four times over the next three days, bringing excitement unlike any other. Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe will open two hours early beginning at 6 a.m. to ease capacity and congestion. Combined with plenty of live music, Labor Day weekend will be a thrill! Miles Construction Company has generously donated the use of a Flatbed Truck and with financial support from The Change Companies, the Nauman Foundation, and Carson Tahoe Hospital, all summer the BAC has placed musicians and bands on the flatbed and driven them through the streets and neighborhoods of Carson City and now the fun goes into September.

The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. The Nevada Humane Society is virtually hosting its annual “Adopt a Duck” fundraiser for interested participants. The COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force met Thursday with seven counties flagged last week for having an elevated risk of transmission of the coronavirus. Based on data provided by the Department of Health and Human Services, six of the seven counties are still meeting at least two of the three criteria, signaling a sustained elevated risk of transmission.

It makes perfect sense for Northern Nevada, a region that can see blankets of snow and ice a few months out of the year, to have its own ice sports facility. Now that hope will become a reality with the completion of Reno Ice's Jennifer M. O'Neal's Community Ice Arena.

The Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival is taking a new direction in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The festival was founded in 2004. This is the first year in which gathering of large crowds at musical events has been restricted due to health concerns.

Kingwhistler and Eric Andersen will hit the Flatbed Concerts Series this Saturday night, Aug 8 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. near the Long Ranch Park neighborhood!

The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company is used to building big Broadway productions this time of year, generally drawing from 6,000 to more than 7,000 people from 20 states and Canada. But there’s a bit of a problem.

This Saturday, Aug. 1 the Flatbed Concert Series will be (slowly) rollilng through the Empire Elementary area with the groovy "Drinking with Clowns."

This week's Flat Bed Concert Series will be going through the middle of Carson City, featuring Spike McGuire from Loud as Folk along with two other musicians. The concert will be held Saturday, July 25 beginning at 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

The route will begin at the Tanglewood Apartments near the CHS tech center, drive through Mills Park and then wherever people are safely gathering.

Each year, the community gathers along the banks of the Truckee River to watch as hundreds of tiny yellow rubber ducks float across the water, and viewers cheer them on.

Adopt a Duck is one of the Nevada Humane Society’s biggest fundraising events of the year, and this year despite COVID-19, it will continue! However, instead of participants gathering on the banks, this year’s event will be live streamed from the Reno Shelter on August 29 at 12 p.m. and will consist of adorable shelter dogs and cats doing adorable activities.

Emerald Bass is a collective of local “bass Dj’s and Producers” based out of Lake Tahoe. Throughout the year, they often throw parties and music concerts that attract crowds of music and art lovers.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Sunday, July 12, 2020 that there are 10 new positive cases and no additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 453, with 315 recoveries and eight deaths, 130 cases remain active.

The Multipurpose Athletic Center has reopened and the Carson City Aquatic Facility and Carson City Community Center are gearing towards reopening on Monday, June 8.

Nevada is trying to conduct its June 9 primary election almost entirely by mail as a way to prevent the spread of COVID-19, with limited options to vote in person. Wayne Thorley, deputy secretary of state for elections, took questions from the public in a Facebook Live town hall on May 11.
