Carson City sheriff's deputies make drug and burglary-related arrests
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 02/25/2013 - 11:46amDrug crimes, burglary, child neglect and a third DUI offense made up the bulk of this weekend's felony-related arrests, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies report.
Two men were arrested Sunday and face felony charges after attempting to steal air compressors from a vacant Carson City building. Arrested were Geoffrey Earl Meudt, 39, of Gardnerville and Steven Walter Cozad, 30, of Wellington, Nev. Both are being held and face charges of being in possession of burglary tools and gross misdemeanor charges of conspiracy to commit theft.
Gardnerville boy, 4, dies in vehicle U-Haul accident
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 02/25/2013 - 9:31amA 4-year-old Gardnerville boy died in an accident Sunday in the 900 block of Cavelti Road in the Spring Valley area south of Gardnerville, the Douglas County Sheriff Office reports. The boy has been identified as Mason Geist, authorities said.
Deputies responded at 3:45 p.m. to 980 Cavelti Road in the Spring Valley area on the report of a vehicle accident involving the injury of a 4-year-old boy, said Douglas County Undersheriff Paul Howell.

Scott Parker is new Carson City area AAA branch manager

Parker, who hails from Medford, Ore., has a long history of management in the insurance industry. This includes a 26-year stint with Farmers Insurance Group in different capacities. He last worked as a district sales manager after serving as a reserve district manager and agency owner as an independent agent.

A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Feb. 7, 7:04 p.m. in the 400 block of Simone Avenue on an outstanding felony warrant out of Douglas County.
Carson City casino December gaming revenue down, Lake Tahoe casino 'win' soars
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 02/08/2013 - 9:40amCarson City and Carson Valley area casinos saw a slight decline in gaming revenue for December, while South Shore Lake Tahoe casinos had an impressive month, leading the state during the Christmas holiday period, Nevada Gaming Control Board figures show.
Carson City and Carson Valley area casinos pulled in $7,862,056 from Dec. 1 to Dec. 31 a decrease of 4.47 percent from December 2011 when casinos gaming revenues took in $8,230,093. The area surveyed includes Carson City, Gardnerville, Minden and all other areas of Douglas County except Stateline at Lake Tahoe.
FAA says airplane that left Minden-Tahoe Airport overdue; Douglas Search and Rescue deployed

A Cessna model 172, red and white in color, bearing tail number N328SP, left the Minden Airport Wednesday at around 5 p.m. The plane was piloted by 46-year-old Keith Jorgenson of Gardnerville. Jorgenson was the sole occupant of the plane.

Man jailed after police foot chase through Carson City restaurant

The man, identified as Tony Clarence Wilson, was tasered on the patio of the establishment located in the 1000 block of South Carson Street.
Wilson faces a felony charge of being a felon in possession of ammunition and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of a suspended sentence. The arrest happened Feb. 1 at 8:30 p.m.

Right now they contain the mural paintings of Kit Carson, V&T Railroad, Dat So La Lee, the Carson Mint, Carson Nugget, Roosevelt’s Speech Capital Building, Carson Brewery and Capital Building; but soon those walls could contain so much more.

Douglas County authorities seek help in finding business and residential burglary suspects
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 01/17/2013 - 3:53pmDouglas County Sheriff's Office investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspects responsible for several burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 15.
The unknown suspects committed burglaries at four separate locations in Douglas County; including a commercial burglary at the Genoa Bar, two burglaries at unoccupied homes in a residential neighborhood in Genoa, and several vehicle burglaries at two local auto repair shops in Gardnerville.

Freezing fog could impact morning commute

Visibility could be down to one-quarter mile at times, and may cause icy and slick roads for this morning's commute.
Carson City officers arrest men on felony weapon and drug charges
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 01/15/2013 - 1:19pmCarson City authorities arrested two men, both with felony convictions, on various felony weapon and drug charges after a traffic stop at 11:45 p.m. Jan. 12 in the 1400 block of Rand. A loaded rifle "ready to fire" tucked in the front seat of the vehicle, knives and methamphetamine were confiscated.
Dareck Gregory Pollock, 38, of Wellington, and Robert Lee Hill, 37, of Ridgecrest were taken into custody by Carson City authorities after a search of the men and vehicle turned up the gun, knives and drugs.
