RENO — January is National Radon Action Month, and University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Radon Education Program is offering free short-term radon test kits to Nevadans from Jan. 1 through Feb. 29. Radon test kits are available at Extension offices and partnering locations, as well as at free presentations, statewide.

As we head into the final Monday of 2019, we're looking at a slight chance of light snow in the morning as a weak weather system brushes the region. A 33-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested in the area of South Carson Street for misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and carless driving after riding a motorcycle unsafely, causing other vehicles on the roadway to slow and alter their direction of travel, a Carson City sheriff's report states.

Events include a toy and gift drive for homeless kids and teens, the 12th annual Christmas Carol Playalong for Strings at the Carson Mall, Carson City’s first-ever "Unsilent Night" at the Brewery Arts Center, a Só Sol dinner with entertainment at Sassafras, a "Pink Party" cancer center fundraiser at the Lighthouse Bar, comedian Dan St. Paul at the Carson Comedy Club and more.

It was a cold day, but a beautiful one to have a wrapping party at Home Instead Senior Care in Carson City. We had a big turn out with volunteers who came Saturday to wrap over 400 presents for our seniors in the community.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn, Homestead Holidays at the Silver Saddle Ranch and more. The Polar Express Train Rides are sold out for the rest of the year, but Santa Train express rides are steaming up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum over the weekend. Read on for details.

GARDNERVILLE — Just in time for more cold and snowy weather this weekend, East Fork Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 3726 donated 150 brand new coats to kids at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada Carson Valley Clubhouse and Douglas County School District this week, through the Operation Warm Coats for Kids Foundation.

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. Along the music front, CHS Band will host its winter concert at the Carson City Community Center and our own local country music star and Nashville recording artist Art Mulcahy will be at Jimmy G's. A Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for multiple offenses related to a standoff that happened at a Morgan Mill Road residence in which multiple shots were fired inside and outside a home that was occupied by a 73-year-old woman, a sheriff's deputy report states.

Once again Home Instead Senior Care in Carson City asking our wonderful community to help us with gifts for our Senior's here in our community. We have Senior's in long term care facilities that have no family, and have no home to call their own.

Carson City area casinos saw October gaming revenue climb 8.27 percent and south shore Lake Tahoe 14.32 percent over the same time as last year, according to figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Statewide, gaming revenue was down 3.85 percent.
