Garage sale

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will host its first Community Garage Sale on Sept. 23, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are invited to participate as either a buyer or a seller.

It’s going to be gorgeous all weekend long, and there are plenty of ways to take advantage of the sunny weather. The Annual Cops and Kids Open House at the Carson City Sheriff’s Department is a family favorite with free food, activities, and games. Treasure hunters will be kept busy with the Genoa Community Garage Sale, as well as one encompassing the Saratoga Springs area of Johnson Lane. SATURDAY:

80+ homes are participating in the 17th annual Saratoga Springs Estates Garage Sale, selling furniture, household items, sports equipment and vehicles. Some homes selling food, water, lemonade. Community provides a porta-potty in the park for visitors/buyers. Starts 8 a.m. and closes by 3 p.m. Main entrance to community is at intersection of Stephanie and South Santa Barbara. Drivers may also enter off of Vicky at Jackie Lane or South Santa Barbara.

Holy moly, it’s going to be a busy weekend: busy and gorgeous out. A bowling tournament and the Comstock Shootout Soccer tournament have the hotels and motels busting at the seams. Celebrate Earth Day with Muscle Powered by making a small piece of Carson City that much cleaner; the trash meets at 8 a.m. and leaves you plenty of time to enjoy the day. The Carson Valley has some great resale and consignment shops that are willing to buy your gently used items or consign them for you in their shops. These are helpful ideas even if you just want to sell your items at a garage sale or on Facebook or Craigslist.

Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. All the other corners of Northern Nevada are a playground for the thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts here to enjoy the bike rally. Battle Born Harley on Research Way offers a huge party without ever leaving the valley. Those two events are hardly all that Carson City and our neighboring counties have to offer, however. Swing a club for the Western Nevada College Foundation at Silver Oak Golf Course. Southbound Train arrives at Living the Good Life for an outdoor show, followed by a night of dancing. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association have cleaned out their closets, kitchens, garages and storage units and looking forward to a successful HUMONGOUS Garage Sale. The funds will be used to help our local veterans of the community.

• Reno-Tahoe Odyssey (178 mile relay race; begins at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno; legs 24-28 run through Carson City)

The Carriage Square Neighborhood, located half a mile west of Carson Street and just south of Winnie Ln., is having its annual garage sale day on Saturday, June 4th, starting at 8am. At least 16 homes are participating this year, and are selling a smorgasbord of items.

Once you're in the neighborhood, just look for the balloons! Each Garage Sale home will have balloons tied to the mailbox so you know exactly where to go.

This beautiful weather is no April Fool’s joke, so get out and enjoy the sunshine. Ascent Runs begins their half marathon series today with a race through Carson Canyons, and it is sure to get your heart pumping. The Downtown Business Association wants to see you at today’s wine walk. Once you’re around Telegraph Street, you’ll see some throwbacks from a by-gone era courtesy of Naughty Tea Mistresses, the First Nevada Cavalry, and more.

The Carson Mall fills with garage sale items and bargain hunters this weekend for their garage sale Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Items are at discounted prices and the Carson Mall stores have their doors wide open and sale signs posted in their windows. This weekend is the weekend to hunt down great deals at the Carson Mall garage sale.

I hope you’re hungry, Carson City. Hungry and adventurous. The annual Chili Cook-off and Craft Fair hits Glen Eagles this weekend, and there will be plenty to sample. If you need something cold to drink, head to 7-ELEVEN for a free small slushee from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. in celebration of Seven Eleven Day. The Farmers Market is always a good bet on Saturday mornings for sampling all the yummy stuff that grows nearby.

The solstice couldn’t come at a better time: we need some long days to get through all the fun stuff Carson City has crammed into one weekend. The annual Powwow at the Stewart Indian School runs Friday through Sunday, so you’ll have plenty of time to see the dancing, peruse the crafts, and eat an Indian Taco. Don’t miss the Fly-in and Open House at the Carson City Airport: fun for the whole family. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one of Carson City’s favorite events: the Taste of Downtown. Music, food, and more from Carson Mall to Williams Street. Have a great time, and be safe.

Students in Carson City School District are on spring break this coming week. School resumes on Monday, April 13. The week that they return from break will be extremely busy for leadership students, as they will be decorating for three major events to be held April 16, 17, and 18.

When someone dies or transfers to assisted living, it is important to be careful on giving old furniture and personal affects to charity or selling items at a garage sale. It was recently reported that a trio of college students in New York earlier this year bought a lumpy couch for $20 at a Salvation Army store.

Pet Network is hosting a community garage sale at Sierra Le Bone in Carson City. We have a large selection of furniture, home decor items, artwork, purses, jewelry and books. All proceeds from the sale benefit the rescue and rehabilitation efforts of Pet Network Humane Society. Come out and find some great treasures for your home while helping to save the life of a shelter animal!

First make a list of your collections of special items. It could be antique furniture, old guns, special china or silverware, dolls, sculptures, old cars, baseball cards, etc.

Then consider meeting with the family before you decide which items will go to which family members (or friends). Maybe a beneficiary will prefer receiving cash instead of a collectible item.

Then think about which person will be the best choice for particular items. Which one will pass on to the grandchildren and future generations?

Today, Saturday, is the annual Children's Museum of Northern Nevada garage sale fundraiser, which runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Find everything you've been looking for at a bargain and help keep the programs at the museum thriving.

Is the stuff collecting in the garage too valuable to be thrown out? The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada will gladly take those household goods, furniture and furnishings off your hands. The Museum will hold its annual fundraising garage sale July 27 in Carson City and is looking for donated items.

Donations are being accepted now and can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily at 813 North Carson Street. If you have items that need picked up call (775) 884-2226.

Visitors to the annual Carson High School Holiday Crafts Fair will also have a chance to look through the school’s yearbooks which date to the 1920s and high school newspapers dating back to 1950.
In addition to viewing these unique historical archives, visitors may buy yearbooks from past years in this “Garage Sale” fundraiser. All money raised will benefit the school’s publication class which prints the Carneta yearbook and maintains the online Senator News newspaper.

It is hard for us to believe but it is now over a month since Pookie's Playhouse opened it's doors in Carson City.
