Two firefighter names to be added at Saturday's Nevada Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial Ceremony

Delucchi and Hungry Valley VFD Assistant Chief Donovan Garcia, Jr., will be added to those of other Nevada firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Tahoe Mountain Milers partner with Carson City Guide Dog Club for Nevada Day Classic
Submitted by editor on Wed, 10/08/2014 - 11:45amAn annual event since 1989, The Nevada Day Classic — presented by the Tahoe Mountain Milers — is an 8K run, a 2-mile run/walk through the historic west side of Carson City. The races precede the Nevada Day Parade celebrating Nevada's entry into the Union.
This year, for the race's 25th anniversary and the Nevada’s 150th, the Classic will be organized in partnership with the Carson City Guide Dog Club and all net proceeds will go to Guide Dogs For The Blind.
Tickets go on sale for Nevada Day Governor's Banquet

Brian Sandoval, senators Harry Reid and Dean Heller, Congressman Mark Amodei and Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki. The event benefits The Boys & Girls Club of Nevada.
Tickets are $60 per person, or a reserved table for 10 is just $500. Doors open at 6 p.m. The evening also includes table service dinner, silent and live auctions, and a Nevada 150 birthday cake and cake cutting ceremony.
Column: Watch out for the latest child tax credit scam in Israel
Submitted by editor on Tue, 09/16/2014 - 2:02pmThe IRS has discovered false claims for child tax credits for returns filed by U.S. citizens that live in Israel. It may involve tens of millions of dollars.
The child tax credit can be $1,000 for each child who is not age 17 at the end of the year. The child must be either a U.S. citizen, national or resident of the U.S. The credit begins to phase out when the taxpayers (parents) modified adjusted gross income in 2013 reaches $110,000 for joint returns and $75,000 for single taxpayers.
Wilderness and camp training program Saturday at Nevada State Museum

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., guests will explore how to set up a tent, leave no trace, name that animal, be safe and find directions using a compass. Visitors will learn skills to help plan their own camping trips to Nevada’s wild lands this fall.
Forest Service opts to restore wetlands, remove Incline Lake Dam

Lake Tahoe event celebrates 50th anniversary of 1964 National Wilderness Preservation Act

The event celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the 1964 National Wilderness Preservation Act.
U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit staff provided saws, logs and gloves and guided over 50 participants of all ages as they cut through a 10-inch log and received the souvenir slice branded with the 50th Wilderness Anniversary logo.

Buyer emerges for Empire Ranch Golf Course

GSR Investments, a company connected with Richards, owner of Silver Oak Golf Course, has bought the deed of trust to the struggling 27-hole Empire Ranch Golf Course and has paid outstanding taxes owed to the city.
Suspect in Washoe Valley killings recently released from prison, tied to Arizona murder

Anthony Gustave Nelson, 40, who had been released from prison in Arizona on June 2 for sexual assault, is the suspect in the deaths of two women, ages 68 and 70, and who led authorities on a chase from Carson City to Sand Mountain Recreation Area on Friday, June 13 in which he died in a shootout with deputies.
Investigation continues into Highway 50 chase, double homicide at Washoe Valley home

Two women were found dead inside a Washoe Valley home. One man was injured by the shooter.

Carson High Announces Newly Inaugurated Officers
Submitted by Kyle Kunz on Wed, 05/14/2014 - 10:14pmIt was a night of firsts and lasts for the elected Student Council members of Carson High School. The formal inauguration took place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the banquet room at the governor's mansion in Carson City and wrapped up at about 7:40 p.m.
The hour and forty minutes was filled with plenty of drama and excitement. Carson High School holds a very high standard in regards to its Student Council. The council has received the silver star award, the most prestigious of all awards within the state of Nevada Student Councils, ten of the last twelve years.
Natalie Wood to lead Nevada Parole and Probation Division

Chief Wood joined the Department of Public Safety in 1999. She began with the Division of Parole and Probation, rising to the rank of Lieutenant before transferring to the Training Division as the Commander.

Nevada’s state engineers to cut ribbon at Carson City Library

Nevada State Engineer Mr. Jason King, P.E. as well as five previous Nevada State Engineers who served in the top post starting from 1967 through 2010 will join King to celebrate arrival of the engineering-focused interactive exhibit.

She has taught violin and viola and performed professionally for more than 30 years. She began playing in the Carson City Symphony when she moved to Nevada in 2004.
She became founding director of the Symphony’s successful Strings in the Schools and Strings in the Summer programs in 2005. She is recipient of the 2011 Nevada Governor’s Arts Award for Leadership in Arts Education.

Carson City Library summer enrichment programs bridge opportunity gap for local youth

In that time, more than 21,788 items circulated from the library’s youth collection, primarily traditional books but also e-readers like Kindles, iPads, PlayAways and PlayAway Views.

Bison Fire Wednesday morning update: 78 homes voluntarily evacuated

Firefighters overnight were able to reinforce the line, with the day shift continuing its efforts today.

Condominium fire leads to arrest of woman on felony drug charge
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 06/18/2013 - 9:36amCarson City authorities investigating a possible arson at a condominium this morning arrested the woman who lived at the residence on a felony drug charge. Ginnie Heidt, was arrested at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Allouette Way.
According to the arrest report, officers investigating the fire insider Heidt's condominium made contact with her where she told authorities she was not aware of a fire at her residence but that she was informed earlier in the morning from a friend of hers that something bad happened there but that he provided no information.
Earth Week lectures at Western Nevada College to highlight global warming, Lake Tahoe geology
