Lori Morris and Intimate Designs Floral have been giving back to the local community for years with Angels With Flowers, which Morris founded in order to donate floral arrangements to hospitals and senior care centers throughout the Carson City area.

Sgt. Benjamin Jenkins was killed in the line of duty on March 27, 2020 on US-93 and White Pine county mile marker 106 near Ely. The following is a statement released on behalf of the Jenkins family:

Community Roots & Shoots’ annual Holiday Open House is Saturday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 209 Dayton Valley Road.

Save the date for opportunities to shop local. Everything in the shop will be 10 percent off during the Holiday Open House. Complimentary treats and hot cocoa will be offered, and Santa will visit from 2pm-6pm.

The nonprofit floral and gift shop offers unique gifts, holiday and all occasion floral arrangements and cards, plus wreaths, garlands and Christmas trees.

Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. Good day Carson City, it is Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018. With steady rain in the city early this morning, slushy snow in the foothills and heavy snow in the Sierra, we are on our way to winter even though it is still technically fall. It sure is beginning to look like Christmas, especially as we head into the weekend, with Friday's Silver and SnowFlakes Festival of Lights at the capitol and Saturday's downtown Holiday Crawl.

DAYTON, Nev. — Healthy Communities Coalition’s garden center, floral and gift shop, Community Roots & Shoots, hosts its annual Holiday Open House with music, festive appetizers and lots of community spirit on Thursday, Nov. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m.

For the past four years, Angels With Flowers has donated floral arrangements to hospitals and senior care centers throughout the Carson City area. On Monday, the program, established by local florist Lori Morris, donated its 99th and 100th arrangement of 2018.

DAYTON, Nev. — Community Roots garden center has expanded to offer unique gifts, floral arrangements, and holiday centerpieces and is now located at 209 Dayton Valley Road. Part of the nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey, Community Roots and Shoots' proceeds help support community and school gardens, teen job skills programs and more.

Let your inner floral designer out and do some holiday bouquets. First, choose a container. Then decide what will hold the flowers in place. When I use a vase, I just put the flowers and greens in loosely. You can place clear marbles or pebbles in the bottom to hold the flowers.

Sometimes florists use a crisscross pattern of floral tape over the mouth of the vase to give stability to the arrangement. However, to make a French bouquet, a centerpiece or a one-sided arrangement, use floral foam in a low container.

Carson High School celebrated its first Week of Respect Oct. 3-7. Students and staff participated in daily activities promoting positive interactions to support a safe and respectful learning environment. Highlights of the week included interactive game stations where students gathered in Senator Square and engaged in board games and brain teasers.

Carson High School Career and Technical Education floriculture students led by agriculture teacher, Charlie Mann, are taking orders for floral arrangements created and sold to benefit local breast cancer and domestic violence charitable organizations. Orders will be accepted through Oct. 12.
