Carson City Fire Department called to brush fire near rifle range
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 06/19/2018 - 12:11pmUPDATE 2:45PM: An update to the fire at the rifle range Tuesday afternoon. Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon reports progress made on the fire and is now moving into mop-up phase. There are three hand crews, two engines, 1 rescue ambulance and overhead staff on scene. The fire is between 4 to 5 acres. Helicopter air support was not needed.
The cause is unknown at this time and is under investigation. The rifle range remains closed for the day.

UPDATE 2:18PM: Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon said there was a flareup this afternoon that takes the fire out of mop-up phase. A hand crew from the Nevada Division of Forestry has been called to the scene. There has been some talk of air support from firefighting helicopters.
Highway 395 now open as progress being made on Chris Fire in Mono County

Highway 395 remains closed Tuesday at the Nevada-California state line as firefighters continue to battle the Chris Fire that began Monday west of U.S. Route 395, about five miles north of Sonora Junction near the Chris Flat Campground.

Human-caused Cascade Fire holds at 30 acres in Desolation Wilderness
Submitted by editor on Thu, 09/25/2014 - 3:38pmThe Cascade Fire burning near Snow Lake on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe continues to hold at 30 acres as of Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. The wildfire is located entirely in the Desolation Wilderness. No structures are threatened.
Clear Creek fire fully contained
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 07/19/2014 - 10:23amFirefighters were able to fully contain the Clear Creek fire by 7 p.m. Friday night, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
There will be a Type 4 Incident Comander, 2 crews and an engine working and monitoring the Clear Creek fire today. The 187-acre fire on the south side of Highway 50 west, is believed to have started by a lightning strike on Wednesday.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 07/17/2014 - 1:16amUPDATE 440PM: Firefighters have contained the fire by 35 percent. Resources have managed to keep a hold of the fire. There were two small slop overs that are being held in place by helicopter and crew work.

UPDATE 1020AM: All roads are now open. Residents can go back to their homes, however be alert and aware of the fire, and weather patterns in the area. The evacuation center at the Carson City Community Center is now closed. Animals can still be taken to Fuji Park.

UPDATE 926AM: The Clear Creek fire remains at 300 acres, 25 percent contained as of 9 a.m., according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. No injuries reported. Vista Grande to Golf Course Drive is only open to residents. Around 40 homes in Clear Creek subdivision are under voluntary evacuation. Residents can go to the Carson City Community Center. Animals can be taken to Fuji Park.
The weather seems to be favoring the firefighters battling the Clear Creek Fire today. According to CarsonWeather.com, winds are expected to be light, with humidity above 60 percent.
The northwest flank of the fire (the steep side on the south side of Clear Creek Canyon) is still active. As a precaution, structure engines are staging in the Jacks Valley and Clear Creek subdivisions.
Bison Fire grows to 25,753 acres overnight, 25 percent contained
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 07/09/2013 - 8:11amThe Bison Fire burning in Douglas County grew to 25,733 acres by early Tuesday morning, with 25 percent containment and Douglas County declaring a state of emergency to allow for more resources. More than 700 personnel are assigned to the fire.
Overnight the fire burned actively from the north side until about 3 a.m. the on the northeast and southeast sides. The night crews were able to make significant progress, said Lisa Ross, spokeswoman for the Bureau of Land Management.
Significant progress made Saturday on Bison Fire in Douglas County

Submitted by admin on Mon, 09/26/2011 - 10:47amToday, firefighters throughout the region continue to battle the Buckeye Fire, five miles west of Bridgeport. The Buckeye Fire started yesterday, September 25, 2011 around 11 a.m.
No structures have been lost and no injuries have been reported. Firefighters have been faced with steep terrain and changing wind conditions making it a difficult fire to contain. As of this morning the size of the fire is estimated to be approximately 1,200 acres. At the time of this release there is no estimate on when containment will occur. The investigation of the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
