The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Joe Bly, Program Director at KNVC, 95.1 FM. Joe will be telling the remarkable story of how Carson City's all-volunteer community radio station was born, how it continues to thrive on a shoestring budget, and how members of the community can help keep it on air and on course into the future.

CHS Senior Abby Golik, after being told Senior Projects, a Carson High School graduation requirement, were temporarily cancelled, decided she wanted to do a Senior Project anyway.

The virtual Reno TubaChristmas 2020 video is available for viewing here via Youtube. The video features tuba, euphonium, and baritone horn players of all ages from Northern Nevada and from California, Arizona, Oregon, Colorado, Kansas, New York, and Sweden.

Many in Carson City do everything they can to help the less fortunate, and those opportunities never cease being opportunities. With this in mind, the holidays are here, the semester at Carson High School is almost over, Christmas vacation, also known as winter break, begins Dec. 19, and there is another opportunity to be generous for those who have plenty.

Reno has been presenting TubaChristmas performances since 1989 and the organizers aren't going to let a little global pandemic stop their fun this year! They invite tuba, euphonium, and baritone horn players of all ages to join virtual Reno TubaChristmas 2020.

During this pandemic, I would love to think I am in fact a builder because I strive to see the best in this, because I have been helping those struggling immensely during these hard times, and because I am doing my best to help the medical professionals I know.

Heading into Tuesday, activities around the capital city area include a meeting of the Carson City School Board, a gathering of the Carson City Toastmasters at Max Casino, a free presentation in Gardnerville that focuses on understanding Alzheimer's and dementia, plus a showing of the documentary about social media, "Like" in Reno, art exhibitions, and more.

Heading into the last Monday of January 2020, we're looking at sunny skies and a warm-up, with highs in the low 50s. Activities around the capital city include a a luncheon highlighting the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren, a free Partnership Carson City Yoga class at the Carson City Community Center, art activities and showings, swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more. Heading into Thursday, activities lined up include a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a Polka Dot Powerhouse Women's Group luncheon at Red's Old 395 Grill, art showings, live music with Dale Poune at Gather, a meeting of the Carson City GOP at Casino Fandango featuring speaker Bob Potts from the Governor's Office of Economic Development, and more.

Returning from the holiday weekend, activities Tuesday around the capital city include the weekly gathering of the Carson City Toastmasters at Max Casino, a fundraiser at Pizza Factory in Carson City for a lifelong local and coach who has been ill, art showings and more.

Heading into Monday and the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday we're looking at cloudy skies with a daytime high around 50 degrees. City, state and federal offices are closed as are schools. The first significant winter storm of 2020 will be blowing into the region Thursday afternoon, bringing gusty winds, heavy snow in the Sierra and 1-2 inches of snow possible in the lower valleys. Heading into Thursday, today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Across the country on January 9 each year, citizens take the lead to show support on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
