Nevada construction union sues Carson City School District over solar projects

Millions of dollars in solar energy projects slated for the Carson City School District hang in the balance after a lawsuit was filed on Monday by a Nevada construction union.

The Northern Nevada Building and Construction Trades Council filed a petition in District Court to stop Carson City School District’s plan to build solar energy arrays at five separate school locations in Carson City. A hearing is set for Thursday, 9 a.m. in Carson City District Court.

Carson Kressley shoots "Carson Nation" at Carson Mall

Carson Kressley, star of the Bravo Channel show "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" was in Carson City today filming scenes for his new reality show "Carson Nation."

Kressley bounded up and down the interior of Carson Mall at midday, with cameras in tow, interacting with shoppers and store employees in his high-energy, over-the-top style. He did quickie makeovers on some people, adding make-up, or working on their hair.

Northern Nevada company honored for geothermal achievements

Geothermal Development Associates of Reno received the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Export Achievement Certificate today.

The award recognizes businesses that have achieved significant success in the global marketplace and have also benefited from the programs and assistance of the International Trade Administration’s U.S. Commercial Service. Nevada Law Enforcement Agencies To Install New Vehicle Technology To Save Money – Cut Air Pollution

CARSON CITY – New technology aimed both at cutting unnecessary vehicle emissions and saving tax dollars will soon be installed in the fleets of four Nevada law enforcement agencies using federal stimulus funds.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Nevada Highway Patrol, the City of Henderson Police Department and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office are purchasing 175 of the “idle reduction� units for $700,000.

Fire at the F.I.S.H. men's shelter

According to Gerie Stanko, director of development for F.I.S.H., "A smoldering electrical fire was discovered at 7:20 this morning at FISH's men's shelter, Focus House, on State of Nevada property in Carson City.

"Twenty-one male residents in the shelter have been displaced. Red Cross will provide 2-4 days of lodging. The fire inspector said that the building has to be re-wired which could exceed 30 days.

Fire rages at Mattress King on Fairview in Carson City

Multiple firefighters are battling a blaze at 445 Fairview, the home of Mattress King and High Desert Hair in Carson City.

According to witnesses near the business, there was some kind explosion.

"There was a loud pop and it caused an electrical shortage, a small blackout for a few seconds," said Shasta Mathews, who works at Dog Eared Books.

"This is upsetting considering that both of these stores are brand new to the area," she said.

Electrical fire at Dori Way home.

Carson City Firefighters were sent to 2990 Dori Way at around 2pm Sunday, on a report of a house fire, with flames inside the house.
