Veteran Nevada Journalist Dennis Myers dies after suffering stroke

Longtime Nevada journalist Dennis Myers suffered a massive stroke last week. He was admitted to Renown Regional Medical Center on Thursday, Aug. 22, and declared brain dead on Saturday, Aug 24. A registered organ donor, he was kept on life support until Monday, Aug. 26, when he was taken in for surgical recovery of his organs for donation.

The 16th Annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music and Art Festival kicks off Friday at Bliss Mansion, 608 Elizabeth Street from 4 to 6 p.m., and continues that evening at the Governor’s Mansion, directly across Mountain Street. Also happening Tuesday is a free robotics mini-camp for kids in nearby Silver City, Reciprocity Inc. will host a fundraiser at Rustically Divine, there's the Culinary Traveler’s Club's Polynesian Paradise featured at Bleu Café; the Carson City Classic Cinema Club will feature a Sci-Fi favorite at the BAC, plus fitness outings and more. New 'Business Retention and Expansion' program under review between Carson City Library, NNDA, and Adams Hub

A Joint Operating Agreement is currently under review between the Carson City Library, the Northern Nevada Development Authority, and Adams Hub, to create and manage a “Business Retention and Expansion” program.

At the Board of Supervisor’s meeting on Aug. 1, a presentation was held to discuss a possible joint contract between the three entities, for the creation of a Business Retention and Expansion program, which would be funded by the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation.

Currently, the Club activities are hosted at Pau Wa Lu Middle School, but due to school events and availability of classrooms, there are many limitations to what the Club can provide to the youth of Carson Valley without having its own location.

Photo Finish: Carson Mall Hot Wheels Race Day winners

The Carson Mall wants to thank all the participants who came out for its second Got Hot Wheels Race Car Race Day on Saturday. The next Hot Wheels race will be Sept. 14.

Racers brought their favorite Hot Wheels, Matchbox or similar-sized car and competed against peer racers for bragging rights and prizes. The race was on a 15-foot downhill race track and was single elimination.

Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Receives Generous Donation from Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church

Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church in Carson City donated proceeds raised from community rummage sale to Carson City Search and Rescue to support the replacement of an aging search and rescue vehicle. A generous donation in the amount of $3,147.25 was presented on July 24, which will join funds already raised for the vehicle purchase.
