What Works: Trust, consistency and communication
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 10/10/2019 - 10:49amI was in yoga class this morning and the key idea was trust. As I moved and stretched, I remembered to trust my body and trust myself to go only as far as I could go. As a communication consultant, I start thinking about this as it relates to leadership. Trust, consistency, and communication all play a major role in relationships. And the relationships you spend the most time in are the ones at work. How can you improve these three key components of satisfaction within your organization?
Carson City sober-living facility closes, declares bankruptcy after client's death: Part II
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Thu, 09/05/2019 - 10:38amOn July 25, Joe Tummarello, a long-term client with Carson City-based sober-living facility Lyfe Recovery, passed away at Carson Tahoe Hospital. By all accounts, a month before his death he had been in fine health for a man of 76. He dealt with COPD and needed an oxygen tank to breathe in the high altitude of northern Nevada, but a check-up with his doctors during May of 2019 showed he was nowhere near the brink of death.
However, after being relocated to Carson City from Lyfe Recovery’s Reno facility, Joe’s medication was withheld and he was denied medical intervention after a rapid deterioration of his health, which ultimately, it is alleged, led to his death.

What Works: Fiercely independent? Here’s how to ask for help
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 07/02/2019 - 1:20pmI have been described as fiercely independent. For years, I have forged my own path — proudly so. I’d tap by feet along to anthems for independent women and cheer myself on. My independence became a badge of honor. And why shouldn’t it be? It was hard one. In some ways, I had to battle for it. But being solo also had a side effect, I struggled in asking for help. “I can do it” became a mantra for me. When I had a short fall, I would hide it instead of asking for support. In business, you see it happening as siloing.
JoAnne Skelly: We have apple trees that did not have blossoms this spring
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 06/30/2019 - 12:07pmA reader sent me a question. “We had an arborist trim our apple tree in March and this is the first year in at least 20 years that the tree had no blossoms. Is this situation common or did we do something wrong?” Neither of my apple trees had flowers this year either. I had assumed a late freeze had caused this because often my trees bloom, then there is a freeze and the flowers wither and die. However, this year there weren’t any flowers at all.

Making Strangers Smile - One Cookie at a Time
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 03/22/2019 - 9:18amMy son and I just had the most amazing day! A friendly serviceman from The Happy Outlet just gave my son and I these delicious sugar cookies. When we asked why, they said just to see us smile, no strings attached. Well we certainly did! The serviceman told us that March 20th was International Happiness Day. When we got home I looked it up and sure enough, this is actually a UN-sanctioned day. I think this is awesome that a local company is taking the time to do something wonderful for our community. With so much hate and division, everyone needs this now more than ever!

Carson City Sidewalks
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 02/12/2019 - 4:43pmI ride a bike everyday of the week. It's already hard enough trying to use what bike lanes that are provided. When it snows it makes it impossible. There is snow on the sidewalks and in the bike lanes. So, why can't the city do something about it? The people who are on wheels can't use the sidewalks. So we the people in Carson city should speak up and voice our opinions and don't be afraid to say something. Thank you, Mr. Michael Rumsey
