Carson City Clerk-Recorder to speak at Monday's Democratic luncheon

Speaking at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Clerk-Recorder Scott Hoen. The services provided by the Clerk-Recorder's Office to attorneys, government agencies, the judicial system, and the general public are mandated by the Nevada Constitution and the Nevada Revised Statutes.

HCC hosts speakers from Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) hosts a public breakfast meeting every other month at the Silver Springs Community Center. The next meeting is Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023 at 9 a.m.

Each meeting includes introductions from all attending, presentations by guest speakers, and discussion and updates about collaborative efforts to increase access to health care; nutritious food; workforce development; and prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.

Signups begin for fall memory loss workshops hosted by Carson area nonprofit Kids & Horses

Kids & Horses partners with Connected Horse to offer powerful workshops to individuals with memory loss and their care partners.

Based on research conducted at UC Davis and Stanford Universities, these workshops resulted in significant improvement in mood, increased positive perception of social support, and greater awareness and appreciation of the relationship between the person with memory loss and their care partner.

Affordable housing the topic at Democratic luncheon

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sarah Adler, Principal at Silver State Government Relations. She will speak on behalf of the Nevada Housing Coalition, a group that works with legislators on policy solutions that address both the shortage of affordable and supportive housing and access to existing housing.

Affordable housing is defined by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development as “Housing for which the occupants are paying no more than 30% of his or her income for gross housing costs.”

Carson area Kids and Horses launches 2023 'Healthy Horse' campaign

All the snow has made for some exciting times since last week, but our team really stepped it up to care for the horses. One of our 2023 goals is to continue providing the best of care for our equine partners, despite the rising cost of food and care needs. This is why with the new year, we’ve launched the Healthy Horse campaign, and our 2023 Kids & Horses calendar.

Homeless advocate to speak at Monday's Democratic luncheon

Dee Dee Foremaster, Executive Director of the Rural Center for Independent Living (RCIL) will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Her presentation will concern the pros and cons of rent control and the need for diversified housing.
