The Brewery Arts Center is committed to the safety and well being of the citizens of Carson City and with the rapid spread of Covid-19, we are taking certain precautions. Please note the following changes in schedule:
The Artisan Shop will be closed this weekend and we will be sanitizing the art and surfaces, making them safe for when we re-open.

Carson City's Brewery Arts Center receives national award from AARP

AARP National has just released the winners of their Community Challenge Grants and the Brewery Arts Center is on the list!

For the third annual AARP Community Challenge, AARP received more than 1,660 applications from nonprofits and government entities, resulting in a highly competitive selection process.

Truly a springtime to remember in Carson City as we say goodbye to April, which leaves us with a spontaneous final chill, and hello to Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Temperatures should head back up into the low 60s by afternoon. Looking ahead there's art showings and painting workshops, a C-Hill hike to see the firefighting sheep, a school district strategic planning meeting, a Salsa dance class, and "Ideas on Tap," a monthly series of interactive conversations at The Union Eatery and Taphouse.

Paint Like Seurat workshop April 3 at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center

Spend the day on Wednesday, April 3 at a "Paint Like Seurat" workshop at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

Georges Seurat was a French post-Impressionist artist who is best known for the painting technique known pointillism. Have fun spending the day learning about him and practicing in his style. He painted in oils, but you're welcome to paint in any medium you prefer.

Art Show Featuring the Work of Deana Hoover

The public is invited to an art exhibit featuring the art of Deana Hoover through September at Comma Coffee’s Backseat Gallery, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m, Sept. 5.

The show is the last planned event featuring the current body of work, primarily featuring wild and domesticated animals in their natural environments. Several original paintings along with some small scale sculptures will be shown.

Meet the artist on the first Wednesday of September at 5 p.m., or view the art throughout the entire month of September.

Carson City's BAC celebrates opening of Expresso Yourself Café this Saturday

The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City is holding a grand opening Saturday for its newest endeavor, Expresso Yourself Cafe, an art experience with splashes of inspiration and creativity.

Collage and Cabernet

Create abstract, mixed media, collage while sipping wine or coffee. Instruction will be provided by artist Deana Hoover.

One beverage is included in the price. Canvases, paints, and other supplies are provided (and you are welcome bring in images and items you’d like to add to your art as well).

Students will develop painting techniques and skills in this open studio class. Work on your own paintings from subject mater you chose for yourself as you take your art to the next level. Create artwork based on realism, abstraction, landscape, portraiture, or whatever style you prefer. Learn artistic technique, such as composition, color, paint application, texture, and expression. The instructor will provide one on one instruction throughout the class. 

Students may use oil, acrylic, or watercolor paint. Dry media is also welcome.

Whatever level you are, students will develop drawing techniques and skills in this open studio class. Work on your own projects from subject mater you chose for yourself as you continue to improve your skills. The first 15 minutes of class will be instruction involving drawing techniques, and the rest of class you will apply what you learn while you work on your own individual work with help and instruction as needed.

Bring your own drawing supplies and source materials (such as photographs or drawings you wish to paint).

Paint outdoors on the first Saturday of each month from 10:00am - 1:00pm. Each fun and exciting class gives encouragement and support as you create art in the ever changing outdoor environment. Step by step instruction, often including one on one help, is provided from locations that vary each month.You will learn and practice the concepts that translate a three dimensional scene to a two dimensional surface, including choosing a composition, understanding value, shapes, edges, and texture, as you create your compositions.
All levels of artists are welcome.

Many of us will never forget where we were when we first heard about the hijacking and subsequent attacks on the World Trade Center. September 11, 2001 is burned into our collective memory. At 8:30 a.m. this morning there will be a memorial service at the 9/11 Memorial in Mills Park where an I-beam from the fallen towers now serves as a reminder. Even if you cannot make it to the ceremony, please take a moment of silence to remember.

Membership is open to all retired and former school employees from across the nation. Enjoy the fellowship with retirees in our area and awarding scholarships to high school and college students who are pursuing degrees in education. Dues for the year are $10.00. Lunch is $10.00. Local author and artist Deana Hoover will be our speaker.
