Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space to host Full Moon Hike up Dead Truck Canyon

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will be hosting March's Full Moon Hike up Dead Truck Canyon on Prison Hill on Monday, March 9. This hike will feature the "Worm Moon," an abandoned 1950's truck and plenty of beautiful terrain.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by, including the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, Carson City Library’s End of Summer Learning Challenge, history talks at Mormon Station Park, train rides in Virginia City, a sushi cooking class at Sierra Chef on Sunday and more!

Calling all creative adventurers! Join the Parks, Rec & Open Space Dept. on the first Interpretive Program devoted to nature photography! All skill levels are welcome as we hike the Dead Truck Canyon trail and learn different techniques to capture the beauty of Prison Hill at sunset.

Feel free to bring a phone, a digital camera, or film! And please make sure to wear close-toed shoes and bring plenty of water & sun protection. See you there!

Events around Carson City for Friday, May 10

The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

Trail Yoga Hike offered by Carson City Parks and Rec

Join Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11 for a moderately difficult one-mile guided hike up Prison Hill to learn about local history and ecology. At the top, enjoy the view while Community Yogi leads beginner yoga! Please wear sturdy shoes for the hike, bring water, and bring a mat if possible. Meet us at the Dead Truck Canyon Trail head at Silver Saddle Ranch (2648 Carson River Road).

A successful 1st guided Full Moon hike for Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space

On Saturday, Sept. 22, Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space hosted its first full moon guided hike at Prison Hill. While the department does have multiple guided hikes throughout the season, this was the first hike guided during the full moon.
