It’s wintry out there, but if you aren’t afraid of the wind-chill, enjoy a walk along the Linear Ditch Trail with Parks and Recreation. Spaghetti is on the menu at J’s Old Town Bistro in Dayton. You’ll be helping out the Lady Dust Devils Basketball program while enjoying delicious pasta. Join the Carson City Classical Cinema Club for this month’s flick, The Fabulous Dorseys, and make sure you’re there for the trivia portion. Speaking of trivia, Tuesdays are packed with it. Sassafras hosts the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz and you’ll find DJ Trivia at the Fox Brewpub.

Well, that was an abrupt change in weather. Today will definite feel like fall, so bundle up. The Halloween festivities for the over 21 crowd get started tonight with parties at Living the Good Life, Ed's Doghouse, and Jimmy G's Cigar Bar. If your costume isn't ready yet, you'll still have plenty of opportunities between now and Oct. 31. A hypnotic fundraiser for Mark Lindquist takes place at Silver Oak Golf Course this evening.

Autumn is coming. It seems our days of 80+ degree weather is over, but so are rainy days we’ve seen this week. The Carson Aquatic Center welcomes everyone to a ‘Dive-in Movie’ on their new LED screen: Finding Nemo is a perfect flick for the whole family. Funnyman Adam Stone headlines this week’s Carson Comedy inside the Carson Nugget for those needing a good laugh. The Carson Area Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America will gather to honor those who have given their all and have yet to come home during a POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on the Capitol Grounds.

Have you ever wished you could clone yourself? If you haven’t, then these next few weekends will make you consider it: there are just too many options to choose from. Whether you prefer indoors, outdoors, adults-only, or family friendly, there is something to enjoy. The Stewart Fathers’ Day Pow Wow and the Carson City Off-Road are the big tickets in town this weekend, complete with some downtown road closures. It’s finally Friday. The annual Salvation Army Turkey Drive runs 6 a.m. until six this evening: drop off your donation at the Max Casino in Carson or at the C.O.D. Casino in Minden. Get to know Supervisor Karen Abowd during her monthly walkabout at the Community Center; head inside to get a peek at the new art exhibit in the Sierra Room while you’re there. The Craft Fair at Carson High School is a local favorite: over 125 vendors, music, and pictures with Santa. It starts tonight and continues tomorrow.

Get those costumes ready, the Halloween parties start tonight. Ed’s Doghouse’s party kicks off at 6 p.m. and is celebrating proprietor and namesake’s birthday as well. Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar has DJ Mobeatz and DJ Cillo keeping you on the dance floor. Scaryoke at Whiskey Tavern combines karaoke, beer pong, and drink specials for a super crazy fun time. Body-painter extraordinaire, Lynzie Ruckuer, teams up with DJ Brunch Dizzle for an American Horror Story themed party at Remedy’s.

It’s a great day to hit the lanes; one dollar will get you a game or shoe rental at Carson Lanes. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at Comma Coffee with some music by CW and Mr. Spoons. High Sierra Swing Dance Club has their weekly ‘Club Night Out’ at El Charros, complete with an intermediate swing dance lesson. Get your karaoke on at Firkin and Fox.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club presents a free dance lesson at its annual Halloween costume ball 7-10:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City. Tim Renner will teach a free beginner West Coast swing lesson at 7 p.m.; afterwards, all new dancers may stay for the 8 p.m. dance for free. Costumes are optional, but there will be prizes for best holiday attire in three categories. Spooky Woods will spin appropriately scary dance tunes. Partners are not required.
