Polls for Tuesday's Carson City General Election remained open after 7 p.m. due to a large, last minute crush of voters at the community center. Carson Now will post the results as they become available via the Carson City Clerk-Recorder's Office.

The Elections Department is reporting that 72 percent of registered voters in Carson City cast their ballots in the capital city, a significant increase from previous elections.

President Donald Trump predicted that Nevada’s battered tourism industry would “come roaring back” under his leadership, warning that the lights of Las Vegas and Reno would be extinguished under a Joe Biden presidency and that Carson City, where he rallied supporters Sunday evening, would turn into a ghost town.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Western Nevada College will host a memorial exhibit and informational presentation on the 9-11 attacks on Friday. Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Steam train rides in Carson City and Virginia City will be available Saturday through Sunday. The Carson Canyon Railbike Tours will run four times over the next three days, bringing excitement unlike any other. DAYTON, Nev. — Join park staff for a guided hike from the Rock Point Mill at Dayton State Park to the historic Donovan Mill in Silver City. Advance reservations are required for this hike and are limited to 20 people.

Joe D’Angelo says he has spent the majority his life helping people. The Carson Senators football team cruised to a 57-28 victory over the Lower Lake Trojans on Friday.

Carson’s potent offense stole the show for most of the contest. The Senators rushed for 359 yards and 137 passing yards.

Nevada State Park staff will host an April 13 guided hike from the Rock Point Mill at Dayton State Park to the historic Donovan Mill in Silver City, Nev.

The Rock Point Mill was one of the earliest large mills in Nevada built to crush ore from the Comstock mines. The mill was destroyed by fires in 1882 and 1909, and floods also caused damage. Although the mill was rebuilt, demand lessened and it was dismantled and moved to the Donovan Mill site in Silver City in the 1920s.

'Singin in the Rain' is probably one of my favorite movies, but I have no doubt that the Western Nevada Musical Theater Company has taken the classic to new heights. Get tickets now if you'd like to catch their production, they are known for sold-out shows. Funnel cakes, Ferris Wheels, and more are waiting for you at Mills Park. A carnival is a great way to help Mom celebrate her special day.

Not a cloud in the sky, and yet we have been hit by a perfect storm: Cinco de Mayo, Kentucky Derby Day, and the monthly wine walk have all collided. Let me tell you, downtown is going to be hopping, not to mention the Early Season Farmers Market making its seasonal debut in the parking lot at W. Musser and N. Nevada – just behind Due Sorella. Take the kids down to Bailys Pond at Fuji Park for the annual Tom Brooks Memorial Kids’ Fishing Day. A trip to the train museum comes with the opportunity to ride on the Historic McKeen Motor Car.

After a 4-3 comeback victory, the Reno Aces and Tacoma Rainiers faced off Friday for the second time in the four game series.

After a 2-1 loss vs. North Valleys on April 8, the Carson High Senators returned home to Carson City on Tuesday seeking revenge against the Panthers.

Baseball season is in full swing, as the Carson Senators took the field for their home debut Thursday looking to start the season on the right foot with a victory against the Fallon Greenwave.

They may hit hard on the court, but the Carson Victory Rollers have a soft side, too.

"We're the sweethearts of the leagues around here," said CVR Events Coordinator Crystal Blackeye. "Sometimes they get into it with each other, but the other teams mended their ways because of us and became legit."

What a week. Granted, it was a short one, but school got out for the summer and we saw the weather go from a wintery chill to summery hot. You have to adapt to changes in life or you won't survive, a Lake Tahoe area ski resort management executive and Tahoe South stalwart John Rice told business leaders this week at a Lake Tahoe Community College forum.

"Change is happening, Clearly we're in a drought, whether it's here for short term, or long term, time will tell," said Rice, the vice president and general manager of Sierra-at-Tahoe, long considered one of the nation's best managed, economically and environmentally efficient ski resorts. "The ski industry has the most to lose in a drought."

Because of this, it does beg the question: Why does music form such strong associations? UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center will present a Feb. 6 lecture that may help answer the question. Dr. Petr Janata, a professor at UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain and 2010-11 Guggenheim Fellowship scholar will present “Music, Memory and the Brain,” based on his research into neurological links between music and memories.
