Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Tuesday, August 25, 2020 that there are 11 new cases and 13 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 963, with 867 recoveries and fifteen deaths, 81 cases remain active.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation announced Tuesday that with the goal of helping Nevadans facing unemployment due to the global pandemic, Governor Sisolak gave the authorization for Nevada to start the application process to participate in the Lost Wages Assistance Program created by President Donald Trump under Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Monday, August 24, 2020 that there are nine new cases and nine recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 952, with 854 recoveries and fifteen deaths, 83 cases remain active.

When the pandemic forced the DMV to close in-person services and waive deadlines, license renewals slowed, vehicle registrations lapsed and voter registration numbers plummeted as people largely stopped interacting with the DMV.

CARSON CITY — Small businesses and non-profits in Nevada are now able to apply for the state’s commercial rental assistance grant program, established through the State Treasurer’s Office and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. The program begins today, Monday, August 24.

The state of Nevada is launching an app on Monday that will allow people who have tested positive for COVID-19 to discreetly notify their close contacts of a possible exposure, a potentially significant boon in a tourism-driven state that has until this point had little ability to contact trace its visitors and at times even struggled to trace all its residents.

Fifteen Carson City non-profits were awarded nearly $800,000 in COVID-19 relief funding via the CARES act during the Board of Supervisor's meeting held Thursday.

The State of Nevada through the CARES Act has allocated over $10 million in Coronavirus Relief Funds “CRF” to Carson City. Carson City’s Preliminary Plan of Expenditure allocated $1 million to be awarded to non-profit organizations located in Carson City.

A COVID-19 mitigation task force on Thursday denied requests from the state’s two urban counties to reopen bars, expressing doubt about whether doing so would stem the tide of outbreaks tied to house parties and concern about a lack of buy-in from all local jurisdictions in Southern Nevada.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Mary Liveratti, who served as AARP's Nevada state president for six years before retiring in 2018. She now serves as a volunteer advocate on behalf of legislation impacting seniors. Nevada Humanities is pleased to announce the opening of the Nevada Humanities Major Project Grants that are part of their FY2021 Nevada Humanities Project Grants to Support Public Humanities Projects. These Major Project Grants have a public humanities project focus and will support larger-scale public humanities projects statewide that range from one month to one year to implement.

According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s (DETR) July 2020 economic report, employment in Nevada realized an increase of 14,800 jobs over the month and saw a decrease of -138,700 jobs since July 2019, or -9.8%.

The total employment level in the State is 1,281,100. The state’s unemployment rate is 14% this month, down 1.2 percentage point from June but up 10.1 percentage point when compared to July 2019.

The Carson City Planning Division is seeking public comment on possible revisions to the City’s zoning ordinance, Title 18. The City’s Planning Commission has conducted several workshops and has drafted proposed amendments for portions of Title 18.
