Rolling Stones tribute, outdoor movies, parade and more: Carson City region readies for Labor Day weekend

Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days, which include guided tours at the Nevada State Museum, movie showings at Mills and Schulz Ranch Park, a school supply car cruise and Bingo fundraiser at the Carson Mall, trash pickup at Lake Tahoe, a Rolling Stones tribute band at Carson Nugget, Virginia City’s Labor Day Parade and more!

Silver City Labor Day Weekend Rummage Sale! On Saturday, August 31 from 8 am to 3 pm in the Silver City Park there will be a town rummage sale to raise funds for the Comstock Residents Association.

The Comstock Residents Association’s 6th annual Labor Day Rummage Sale and BBQ is this weekend. The event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday Sept. 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Silver City Park at 385 High Street (adjacent to the community center/school house).

The Comstock Residents Association’s 6th Annual Labor Day Rummage Sale and BBQ is just around the corner! The event takes place on Saturday September 3rd and Sunday September 4 from 9am-5pm at the Silver City Park at 385 High Street (adjacent to the community center/school house).

You’ll meet some great people and find remarkable bargains on furniture, housewares, books, art and more.

The food is always good, with lots to choose from.

Live music sweetens the event, with performances by The Ukulocos, Bob Elston, Allander/Stornetta, Mylo McCormick, and others.

Nevada highway 342 closed over safety concerns, Comstock residents call for answers

On Sunday afternoon Feb. 8 the Nevada Department of Transportation closed a two-mile stretch of Nevada Highway 342 in lower Gold Hill because of subsidence occurring adjacent to the steeply excavated Lucerne Pit, prompting a call for answers from angry residents of Gold Hill and Silver City.

Comstock Mining Inc. Refuses Support for Independent Environmental Data Review

Silver City, NV - The Comstock Resident’s Association’s (CRA) recent request for funds to obtain third-party analysis of health and safety data associated with mining activities in Gold Hill and Silver City has been denied by Comstock Mining Inc. (CMI).

Silver City and Gold Hill residents seek financial assistance from active mine

Silver City, NV – August 4, 2014 – The Comstock Residents Association (CRA) announced today that it is seeking financial assistance from Comstock Mining Inc. (CMI) to conduct document and data review following the mine’s continued activity near residences in the area.

This request succeeds CMI’s offer to pay for blood testing and soil analysis for Silver City residents due to potential health and environmental consequences of mining activity close to homes in the area.

Lyon County master plan vote draws legal fire from residents

At the Lyon County Commission meeting January 2, the commissioners voted 4-1 to grant a request from Comstock Mining Inc., to modify the county Master Plan and change the zoning, which would allow pit mining in and adjacent to Silver City.

Four of the Commissioners ignored the recommendation of the Planning Commission and the express wishes of the citizens of Silver City and voted without explanation to abandon precedent and acquiesce to the company's desires.

Lyon commissioners OK Comstock Mining master plan amendment, zone change

In a 4 to 1 decision the Lyon County Board of Commissioners on Thursday approved a Master Plan Amendment and zone change sought by Comstock Mining.

Commissioners took testimony 4.5 hours of testimony in regards to Comstock Mining’s application for a Master Plan Amendment and Zone Change. The chambers and hallways filled with about 250 residents.

Mining on the Comstock is topic of tonight's Capital Crossfire

Tune in for another edition of Capital Crossfire Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on Access Carson City Television channels 210 and 226. Hosts Shelly Aldean and Karl Neathammer welcome guests Joe McCarthy of the Comstock Residents Association and John Hadder of Great Basin Resource Watch. The discussion and debate is mining on the Comstock.

The program can be seen on Carson Now beginning Monday and will air again on Access Carson City Televsion Fridays, 8 p.m. on July 12 and July 19, and Saturdays, July 13 and 20, 2 p.m., and Sunday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Nevada Expressions II Comes to Carson City: Art Show and Sale to Benefit Historic Preservation on the Comstock

After a successful run in Reno at the Sierra Arts Foundation Gallery, the Nevada Expressions II Art Show and Sale will come to Carson City. The opening is on Friday, April 26, 10 am – 8 pm, at the Great Basin Art Gallery at 110 South Curry Street and the show will run through Sunday.

The public is invited to the artists’ reception, Friday 4 – 8 pm. Stop by to meet and see the work of 25 of Nevada’s leading contemporary artists. The work is primarily paintings with some jewelry, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media.
