The teachers of CHS are asking if this is still true? Of course it is. Men, women, and children of Carson City are encouraged to purchase a T-shirt to support both breast cancer awareness and CHS teacher Kelly Gustafson, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Being a student at Carson High School is rewarding enough, academically speaking, but learning is happening everywhere; however, forcing a teacher to dress in pink, from head to toe, wearing a pink tutu, is a different story and an exciting fundraising opportunity.

He is a senior at Carson High School, and his last year is, to say the least, unconventional. Adults have had their say, so how about a chat with this popular young man as he sports a 1980s hairstyle called a mullet in which the hair is short on the sides and long at the front and back.

49,000 Nevadans live with Alzheimer’s disease, a degenerative brain disease that affects memory, thinking and behavior. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. The prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease in Nevada will grow 30.6 percent by 2025, reaching 64,000 Nevadans.

Google announced Monday that it has launched new programs and commitments to help job seekers who have been impacted by COVID-19.

CARSON CITY — Through a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Nevada will be deploying 35 crisis counselors statewide to support Nevadans coping with the effects of COVID-19. The program will focus on a population health approach that encourages healthy coping and active management of stressors, building resiliency and fostering compassion.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services has announced the release of a Nevada 211 app to help more Nevadans connect with the resources they need.

Patt Quinn-Davis, Carson High School Language Arts teacher and adviser of the school newspaper and Carneta yearbook, is retiring. For Quinn-Davis, the publications staff became a part of her family every year and even more so when students stayed with the program throughout their high school careers.

Greater Commercial Lending (GCL) continues to accept applications for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), authorized by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as a result of the recently enacted Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). The company is one of the earliest business lenders to fully adopt the PPP in the State of Nevada since opening applications on Friday, April 3. By mid-day on Monday, April 6, over 400 Nevada businesses had submitted applications to GCL.

Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. MINDEN — In response to COVID-19 Douglas County officials continue to work closely with Carson City Health and Human Services and a regional Emergency Operations Center that has been set up in Carson City to ensure compliance with the Governor’s directive while working in partnership to keep Douglas County residents safe.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting one new positive case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus in the Quad County region: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. This brings the total number of cases in the Quad-County region to four.

Each year, a national “Point-in-Time Count” is conducted in any community that receives U.S Housing and Urban Development funds as a way to figure out how many people are suffering from homelessness in each community in order to better apply resources.

Carson High and Douglas High teaming up together is right up there with the appearing of Halley’s Comet. Officially designated 1P/Halley, this is a short-period comet visible from Earth every 75–76 year and is the only known short-period comet that is visible to the naked eye from Earth and the only naked-eye comet that might appear twice in a human lifetime.

Carson High School will again open its doors a little wider and longer for the 3rd Annual Back-to-School Night like no other Sept. 9. Open House, Open Hearts is a community event focused on building bridges to local services for teens and their families, increasing parent and guardian engagement at CHS, and celebrating the community, creativity, and diverse talents of Carson City.

This Monday, Sept. 9, Carson High School will open their doors for the third annual “Open House, Open Hearts” Back-to-School event. The community event starting at 4:30 p.m. will focus on building bridges to local services for teens and their families, increasing guardian engagement at Carson High School and celebrating the community, creativity and diverse talents of Carson City.

Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program and the RSVP Veterans Advisory Council Presents the Carson City Veterans Resource Fair Sep., 7th, 10am - 1pm, at the Carson City Nugget.

Veterans and their caregivers will be provided with information on valuable services and programs provided by area nonprofits, advisory groups, government agencies and the private sector.

Partnership Douglas County, formerly known as Partnership of Community Resources, hosted the 2nd annual Empower Youth Conference at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center on Saturday, Sept. 29.
