Photo of fading NEOWISE Comet

Here is a picture of the comet. I took this July 25, 2020 from over by Washoe Lake. I had to keep working at it. First I had to make sure I had the right portion of the sky. The bottom two Big Dipper stars on the generally right side of photo are what points down somewhat towards the comet. 10-second exposure. I'm just an amateur photographer. It's very far away of course now. I could hardly find it - at first finding something else, but then I finally found the right blip. Oh Boy!

The NEOWISE Comet in all its glory

After three attempts of seeing this rare comet, last night I was rewarded with this stunning capture.

Step outside and take a look at the skies tonight and early Saturday morning for a meteor shower that hasn't happened before. Scientists are calling it the Camelopardalids. No one has seen it before, but the shower could put on a show that could rival the prolific Perseid meteor shower in August.

Hikes are where you find them, sometimes at the top of a ski lift

Most experienced Carson City hikers would probably never consider starting a trip from the beginning of the Heavenly Mountain Resort's Gondola lift in South Lake Tahoe. It's not the most challenging trek around Carson City — you can always do Prison Hill from the river side or the city side and have a good view of Carson City and Slide Mountain. Or dead Man's Creek at Washoe Lake.

Movie Review: 'Thor' of the magic hammer alive and well

It's hard to say whether the mythical adventure film "Thor" currently playing at the Fandango Galaxy in Carson City is the best adventure film since "Fast Five," or whether it is a messy marketing adaptation of Scandinavian myth with no logic and sense to the story other than luring the kids in.

Several Tahoe ski resorts to open this weekend

A handful of Lake Tahoe ski resorts prepare to open for the season this weekend thanks to an early snowfall, snowmaking guns and a fairly large storm set to punch the Sierra.

Around a foot or more of natural snow across the Sierra earlier this month certainly helped get things moving. With this weekend's anticipated storm, which may bring anywhere from 2-4 feet of snow to the Sierra, resorts should get a nice healthy boost just in time for the holiday season.
