6th Annual CHS Safe & Sober 5k Run/Walk a Success

We had a great turn-out with 104 sign-ups and 88 participants. The weather was the best it’s been for the past five years – even after many inches of snow earlier in the week!

Carson City Republican Assembly Votes For The New Tax
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 06/11/2015 - 5:20amI know much has been written about the passage of SB483 by the Assembly, especially about how many Republicans voted in favor of the Budget Bill, despite their campaign promises to not support a Gross Receipts Tax.
Our freshman District 40 Assemblyman, P.K. O’Neil, announced his support of SB483 prior to voting, including this statement: “I believed our state employees are hard-working Nevadans who had been asked to sacrifice in a disproportionate way since the beginning to the budget crisis and economic downturn.”
5th Annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk a Success

The weather cleared up this morning and with just a bit of wind at race time, we couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather, maybe even a sunburn.

Local casinos, bars participate in 'Most Valuable Driver' Super Bowl Sunday Koozie campaign

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with Joining Forces and the Office of Traffic Safety have provided a limited number of water and cola Koozies to be given to those who choose to be designated drivers during the game.
They are designed in the shape of a football jersey and have been stamped with the MVD and Zero Fatalities Logo.

Lyon County Board of Commissioners OK tentative budget without employee cuts

Many of America’s largest corporations and wealthiest individuals use accounting gimmicks to shift profits made in America to offshore tax havens, where they pay little to no taxes. This tax avoidance costs the federal government $150 billion in tax revenue each year. USPIRG released new data illustrating the size of this loss with 16 dramatic ways the public could benefit from those lost funds.
