CARSON CITY — With Breast Cancer Awareness Month underway, the Nevada Health Centers Mammovan is celebrating 20 years of service with screenings this week, including one in Carson City on Monday.

Events Wednesday include art showings, music, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

Hitting the halfway mark of the shortened work week, Wednesday events around town include Northern Nevada Development Authority's The Business Edge monthly meeting, "State of the Counties" at Casino Fandango, a Capital City Arts Initiative reception for the "Photo Finished 2020" exhibition featuring the works of 9 Carson High School students, a Bee City USA Carson City meeting at the community center, a women's Seeking Safety workshop, and more.

Aeronaut Mark Prothro and Dianne, his bride of 49 years, didn’t plan on joining the hot air balloon traveling circus, but they’ve been a part of it since the mid 1990s.

The University of Nevada has announced that students who were set to be put up in the Argenta Dormitory at the Reno campus will now be relocated to a tower at Circus Circus following the July 5 explosion that destroyed a good amount of the building and left a handful of students with minor injuries.

In addition, the resident dining facility on the first floor of Argenta, in which all dormitory students with paid meal plans eat during the year for most meals, was also damaged and will remain closed for the next academic year.

Officers from the Reno Police Department are currently investigating a body of suspicious circumstances found at the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino early this morning.

According to the Reno Police Department, officers were dispatched to the casino around 2 a.m. to the report of a body being found in suspicious circumstances on the 19th floor of the hotel.

Tickets for Under the Big Top, the 2019 circus-themed, multi-generational production of the Senior Follies are now available for show dates July 12-14.

Heading into Tuesday, June 18, 2019 we're looking at continued warming around the region with a daytime high around 91. Temperatures are expected to actually lower toward the end of the week. Events around town Tuesday include a Muscle Powered walk, hike and bike ride, yoga, exercises for the mind and body hosted by the Carson City Emblem Club, political gatherings, art activities and more.

April was an action packed month as several Carson High School clubs put on The Friendship Ball, A Night Under the Big Top Father Daughter Ball, and The Greatest Show on Earth 2019 Prom. Even more amazing than the dances are the students behind the scenes who, with the guidance of Leadership Adviser Ann Britt and FBLA Adviser Angila Golik, transformed the CHS Big Gym so that all visitors, young and old alike, would think they had walked into a beautiful dream.

You may ask yourself, seriously, is it almost May already? Seriously. It is. Time keeps ticking away and the temperature gauge keeps heading North. Our wonderful father, husband, brother and friend Rich Sorenson made his way to heaven on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the young age of 66. He was surrounded by family and friends as he, in his words, went before us to “get the party started” with Jesus!
