If this hater of everything Christmas is distressed, you can just imagine how sad all those who love this Carson City tradition will be.
49th annual Virginia City Grand Prix event canceled for 2020

Entering its 49th year, Virginia City’s historic annual off-road race was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17 through Sunday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event was rescheduled twice in hopes of holding the event for 2020.

Carson City Sheriff Canines will be safer in the field thanks to generous donation funding first aid training

“The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit greatly appreciates the generosity of Carson City Toyota,” said Furlong. “Year after year, Carson City Toyota has provided donations to the unit, which has been used to promote the health and training of our canine partners.”

Alan Kalt, chief financial officer from Nevada Public Agency Insurance Pool and Public Agency Compensation Trust also known as POOL PACT, presented the district a Loss Control Excellence Award with a plaque and a check in the amount of $3,500 for the continued safety effort.

Frank Reynolds, current president of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) local chapter 388 in Carson City, opened the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance and the chapter’s chaplain delivered the invocation.

Storey County Fire Protection District Receives ISO Public Protection Classification Rating

In addition, the fire district has received a rating of 3 for the fire station at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center (TRI), which was previously rated as a 10.
Sgt. Daniel L Ackerman-Vietnam Veteran-Empire Cemetery at Carson City, Nevada
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 11/11/2014 - 2:33pmSgt. Daniel Leverne Ackerman was from Carson City, Nev. He served in Vietnam, where he made the ultimate sacrifice in combat service to the United States of America a few weeks after his 21st birthday.
Sgt. Ackerman was born on March 13, 1947, and was killed in action on April 10, 1968. On the Vietnam Memorial Wall his name is located at Panel 49E, Line 7. Sgt. Ackerman was buried at Empire Cemetery, which is just east of Carson City.
Gold Star Peak dedication Sept. 6 to honor fallen South Lake Tahoe area soldiers
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 08/20/2013 - 12:41pmWith the assistance of the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and a determined committee, an unnamed peak on the North Shore of the Lake Tahoe Basin has been renamed “Gold Star Peak” in honor of soldiers from the area that paid the ultimate price in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and the War on Terrorism.
A ceremony to dedicate Gold Star Peak will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, at Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe.
Carson City adopts pilot program that addresses mental health issues and violence

Furlong was asked to talk about the shooter who opened fire and killed four at the Carson City IHOP in 2011.

Wilkinson is leaving to return to the practice of law, effective Feb. 20.
Nevada legislation threatens transportation efforts at Lake Tahoe

Carson City emergency management has successful test in planning for worst-case scenario event
Submitted by editor on Tue, 08/17/2010 - 4:56pmAround 30 representatives from law enforcement, emergency management and the Carson City Health and Human Services Office conducted a test run today of its portable emergency facility designed for health emergencies such as mass casualty disasters.
The 20 foot by 40 foot inflatable facility, which would serve as a temporary morgue, underwent the test to activate an HVAC cooling system, said Pam Graber, public information officer for the Carson City Health and Human Services Office.
