It’s the first weekend of the year, and so it’s time for the downtown wine walk. The monthly tradition is a great way to meet others from around town. Kids will want to head to the Community Center for the Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot. The best shooters in the state will advance to the national competition in Chicago for a chance at scholarship money.

It’s a perfect afternoon for a trip around the rink at the Arlington Square Ice Rink. School will be off for winter break next week, and the rink will have expanded hours for the occasion. Warm up inside with country dancing at Carson Lanes. Test your knowledge at Trivia night at Living the Good Life. For cool jazz and yummy food, Sassafras is the place to be tonight.

Sunday, Dec. 6: Things to do around Carson City

Happy Sunday. There’s still plenty of weekend left. Craft fairs at Carson Lanes and the Carson Colony are sure to have something for that hard to buy for person on your list. Fight the chill with chili at the Carson Bulldog Wrestling Club’s Chili Cook-off at Yogurt Beach. Sing some holiday songs at the Holiday Karaoke Sing-along Party at the Carson City Library. Dayton lights up its tree tonight at ‘Our Park,’ so dress in your ugliest sweater and enjoy some hot chocolate and cookies at their ‘Small Town Christmas’ celebration.

Have you been naughty or nice this year? You’ll have no problem finding Jolly Old St. Nick this weekend. At Debug Computers where, in exchange for a donation to Holiday with a Hero, you can get a photo with the man in red. The Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to grab a candy cane, some hot cocoa, and tell him what you’d like to find under the tree. Photographs with Santa are available at the Carson Mall Wednesday through Sunday. Genoa’s annual Breakfast with Santa has three seatings beginning at 8:30 a.m.

CASI and Benson's Feed team up to bring Santa and his elf for photo shoots with your pets. Bring your furry critters down to Benson's Feed at 2750 Hwy 50 in Carson City on Saturday, December 5th from 10 AM to 2 PM. The cost is $15 for one 4x6" print and a digital copy (emailed to you). Enjoy the magic of the season with your furry friends while helping to raise money for the new animal shelter. Prizes will be given for largest, smallest and best dressed critters courtesy of Benson's Feed. Enjoy hot cocoa and cookies while you wait.

Wednesday, Nov. 18: Things to do in Carson City

We have plenty of things to look forward to this weekend: Mary Poppins' final shows, the annual Craft Fair at Carson High, the opening of the Polar Express. Just don’t forget that fun can be had every day in Carson City. Tonight, enjoy line dancing at Carson Lanes. Ladies enjoy pool and drink specials at the Ormsby Club. The ever-popular Geeks Who Drink trivia game makes its weekly appearance at Lake Tahoe Brewing Co. And Living the Good Life is proud to bring Liam Kyle Cahill to the stage as part of his acoustic folk rock ‘Turkey Tour.’

Are you ready for this? Nevada Day weekend has arrived and brings with it a downtown filled with friends, neighbors, and fun. Hot air balloons, the annual beard contest, the parade, tours of the Governor’s Mansion, and more make this time of year amazing. The carnival at Mills Park, and the Pow-Wow at the Carson Colony take the festivities to the next level.

Think Pink and Strut Your Mutt at the Carson Mall

This Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 bring your Mutt or yourself and walk laps around the Carson Mall. Get sponsors to donate a set amount per lap. (or sponsor yourself). Strut your laps, collect the donations and we will send them to the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center.

Dress crazy dress pink, this is think pink month for breast cancer awareness. Event will go from 11am to 3pm. Walk any time during that time frame. The Humane Society will be here with pet adoptions. CASI will be here seeking donations for the animal shelter.

VIDEO: Carson City officially breaks ground on new Animal Services shelter

It's official now and it was made possible by the citizens of Carson City and a community of caring volunteers. Carson City broke ground Wednesday on its Animal Services facility with plenty of praise, rounds of applause and a sincere thank you from the Carson Animal Service Initiatives, also known as CASI, whose volunteers spent thousands of hours to make the shelter a reality.

New Carson City animal shelter to break ground Oct. 14 with ceremony

Carson City is going to the dogs this weekend.

“We’re showcasing that Carson City is a dog-friendly community,” said Lisa Schuette, president of the Carson Animal Services Initiative, which is raising money for a new and improved animal shelter.

Coinciding with Bonanza Kennel Club’s annual AKC Dog Show at Fuji Park on today and Sunday, CASI is organizing a weekend of activities for the pups.
The seventh annual Pooch Plunge will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. today at the outdoor pool of the Carson City Aquatic Facility.

The Dog Days of Summer have hit town, so grab your favorite four-legged friend and have fun. CASI is hosting the ‘pooch plunge’ at the Carson Aquatic Center so that your pooches can beat this late September heat. Join the Nevada Humane Society at Lake Tahoe Brewing Company for the first annual ‘Brew-paw.’ Adoptable pets, a raffle, and more await. Don’t miss out on the downtown walk Sunday following coffee and mimosas at Adele’s. The ‘wag-n-walk’ will end up at the Visitor’s Center where you will be rewarded with a special pet tag.

Doggy Friendly Weekend Ahead with Pooch Plunge and Sunday Walk

Please join CASI for two great dog friendly events this weekend. On Saturday, we are hosting the Pooch Plunge at the outdoor pool, 841 North Roop Street, from 9-3. If your dog likes to swim, this is the event! There will be a ramp, tennis balls, towels, and dog treats. Cost is $10 for the first dog, and $5 for additional dogs.

Coyote threat forces cancellation of CASI 5K9 at Riverview Park

Due to the high coyote activity around Riverview Park, the CASI 5K9 scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19 has been canceled.

This last weekend of August is filled with ways to celebrate your community. Carson Animal Shelter Initiative, better known as CASI, hosts their annual Bark, Whine, and Dine Fundraiser at Fuji Park. Animal lovers can also head to Carson Catalina Apartments for a rummage sale that benefits the Carson Tahoe SPCA. The Carson City Sheriff's Office young Explorers will host a fundraising car wash; The Marine Corp League can be found at the north Carson Walmart; half of the donations received will go to Deputy Howell’s family fund. And don’t miss out on the drought-friendly water balloon ice bucket challenge raising funds for ALS at Butler Meats on Sunday.

Motown and art hit the stage today at the Community Center as part of the ongoing Jazz and Beyond festival. Well, the CCAI art show and sale opens at 5 p.m. in the theater lobby. The Carson Animal Shelter Initiative has a meeting this evening, and there is sure to be a lot to cover. Their major fundraiser, ‘Bark, Whine, and Dine,’ hits Fuji Park on August 29.

CASI Bingo

Join CASI for a fun day of Bingo where you can meet new friends, share some laughs and win raffle prizes and money. The CASI ball payout is now over $600.

Doors open and 11:30 and games start at 12:30. Buy in is $10 and extra packs are $5, all special games are $1. There is a snack bar available if you are hungry and the coffee is always free. CASI is a 501c3 non profit raising money to help build a new animal shelter.

Bark, Whine and Dine

CASI will be holding their Bark, Whine and Dine event on August 29th at 5:30 PM at Fuji Park. Dinner will be provided by the award winning Carson City BBQ. There will be silent auction items galore and a beautiful quilt to be raffled off. Music will be provided by Ten Dollar Pony. Join CASI for a fun filled night as they raise money to help build a new animal shelter. Tickets are on sale now for $30. Sunday, August 2: Things to do around Carson City

Sundays are a great day to hit up the Carson City Library now that it’s open seven days a week. A viewing of the movie Persepolis begins at 2 p.m. and is about a young girl during the Iran Revolution in the 1970s. Pop-up Storytime is great choice for younger patrons.

The Fair at Fuji Park and the Silver Dollar Classic at Mills Park are still going strong. While you’re at Mills Park, take a ride on the train: rides begin at noon. Genoa is a great place to spend an afternoon. This month’s Sweet Sippin Sunday features Tequila cocktails and music by Carson’s own, Janera Paxton of the Whitehats. Mozart lovers won’t want to miss TOCATTA at the Shepard in the Sky Church for their Mozart in the Mountains concert.

I apologize, Carson City. You have some decisions to make. There is quite a bit going on whether you want something family friendly, adults only, indoors, outdoors, or a combination of it all. The weekly Farmers Market at Third and Curry St. is always a good way to start the weekend. Yummy food, a bounce house for the kids, and beautiful flowers are hard to argue with. Keep reading for enough fun to make your head spin!

Bliss’ for signing after a power point presentation. Enjoy a night at Living the Good Life; they have just started doing a karaoke night every other Tuesday. Feed your inner artist at Lake Tahoe Brewing Company. Art Bar Reno is hosting a painting party there tonight.

I hope you’re hungry, Carson City. Hungry and adventurous. The annual Chili Cook-off and Craft Fair hits Glen Eagles this weekend, and there will be plenty to sample. If you need something cold to drink, head to 7-ELEVEN for a free small slushee from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. in celebration of Seven Eleven Day. The Farmers Market is always a good bet on Saturday mornings for sampling all the yummy stuff that grows nearby.
