All seven Nevada State museums will offer free admission Saturday, July 20, to celebrate newly expanded schedules. Train rides at the railroad museum in Carson City and Boulder City will be half price.

Carson City man jailed after allegedly stealing wire, battery from junk business

A 32-year-old Carson City man faces misdemeanor larceny and stolen property charges after allegedly taking wire and a battery from a business that sells junk on Wednesday.

The man was arrested at 12:05 p.m. in the 1800 block of Lompa Lane. According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Ann Street for a report of a commercial burglary.

Flamingo Flocking Season

When you order flocking, members of the Flamingo Flocking crew, the "Flockers", will deliver approximately 12 to 60 birds to unsuspecting yards to where they have been directed to roost, usually arriving unnoticed in the cloak of darkness.

Freedom Fest 2013 tonight at Glen Eagles

Carson City Sheriff: Highway 50 safety plan aims to change, correct bad driving behaviors

For the past month, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office has been heavily engaged with the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Northern Command, Major Brian Sanchez, regarding the collision rates on Highway 50. From the very onset, we have seen leadership of a variety of agencies jumping on board to create a short and long term plan that will provide for a safer highway for everyone to travel.

Vehicle fire in Carson City prompts evacuation of nearby buildings

Carson CIty Fire Department responded Wednesday afternoon to the 4000 block Gordon Street for a vehicle that burst into flames next several structures. No one was injured and the fire was knocked down quickly.

The owner of the vehicle was speaking with law enforcement and fire officials at the scene. Witnesses have told authorities they believe the fire may have been intentionally set by the owner/occupant of the vehicle. This has not been confirmed.

Carson City Sheriff's Office: Tier III Sex Offender registers

The Carson City Sheriff's Office advised Wednesday that a Tier III sex offender — the highest level — has registered and is now living in the area of Ramsey Circle in Carson City.

Steven Ray Glasgow, 43, was convicted in 1989 of second degree rape. The crime was committed in Oregon.

Glasgow is not wanted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office but was required under law to register with the Carson City Sheriff's Office and to provide community notification.

After a couple weeks of average summer temperatures, Carson City and Northern Nevada will likely experience another heat wave at the end of the week. Strong high pressure will build over eastern California and western Nevada Friday and persist through the weekend, the National Weather Service reports.

Carson City, Lyon County agencies make United Way grant list

Carson City and Lyon County nonprofit agencies have partnered with the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra for a second round of funding.

The Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, Friends in Service Helping (FISH) Community Chest, Healthy Communities Coalition, Central Lyon Youth Connections, Lyon County Human Services were named as grant recipients through various partnerships, for the 2012-13 fiscal year.

In all, more than $1.3 million will be distributed to Northern Nevada agencies, said United Way spokesman Scott Walquist.

Motorcycle crash sends one to hospital via Care Flight

A motorcycle crash victim was taken by CareFlight after an accident Tuesday night near the intersection of Carson and Colorado streets in Carson City.

The motorcycle rider reportedly went over the top of the vehicle, landing on the pavement. They were conscious and moving around but appeared also have had seriously injuries.

The crash was reported at 5:29 p.m. The victim was taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno. His injuries are unknown at this time.

The Nevada Highway Patrol and Carson City Fire Department responded.

Felony grand larceny charge added after truck theft in Carson City Smith's parking lot

A 31-year-old Reno woman faces a felony charge of grand larceny after Carson City deputies were able to look at surveillance video that showed her taking a 2005 Dodge truck on July 10 from the parking lot at Smith's.

Carson City man jailed after throwing rocks, punching ATM machine

A 52-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday after admitting to throwing rocks and punching an ATM machine causing about $13,000 in damage.

Russell James White faces a felony charge, destruction of property. He was arrested at 5:13 p.m. in the 1800 block of Camille.

According to the arrest report, officers responded to the Wells Fargo Bank in the 1500 block of East William in reference to destruction of an ATM machine.

Former Carson City man murdered in Rocklin, Calif.

Friends and family are struggling to understand what went horribly wrong Saturday night in a quiet Rocklin neighborhood when Robert "Bob" Vickney, Jr. was stabbed to death. Friends say it is the same Bob Vickney Jr., who was born and raised in Carson City.

Carson City 'Beat the Flu Blues' campaign a success

Carson City Health and Human Services is pleased to announce the success of the 2012–13 Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Community Outreach Campaign, “Beat the Flu Blues.”

The agency conducted 69 community vaccination clinics that provided more than 10,700 influenza vaccinations throughout the quad-county area of Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties. Our local clinic provided an additional 1,259 flu vaccinations. In all, CCHHS increased the number of flu doses given during the 2012 season by 10 percent.
