Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 10/24/2013 - 3:00pmThere's been a lot of traffic fatalities in Nevada this year. Some involving alcohol. Some not. So with this weekend bringing tens of thousands of people to Carson City for Nevada Day festivities, motorists should take it easy on the road. If you're going to drink, don't drive. If you're going to drive, don't drink.

Outdoors with Don Q: Why five adults were crying Monday and Tuesday
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 10/24/2013 - 10:06amFor the record, four adults (Chuck and Barbara Van Hise, plus Don and Elaine Quilici, all of Carson City) were crying at the Van Hise home on the afternoon of October 21. And, then the following afternoon, we would be joined by my son Jim, crying at his home.
Why was everyone crying on those two fateful days in late October?
Was it because someone had died? Nope.
Was it because someone had a serious illness? Nope.
Was it because someone had a serious injury? Nope.
Was it because there had been some bad news? Nope.

Remember the little ones when you decorate for Halloween
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 10/23/2013 - 6:20pmI would like to plead to our neighbors in Carson City to not have awful decorations up for Halloween. Halloween is a great time for fun and a bit of a scare, but not for rated R front yards.
It’s fun to decorate, but sometimes we kids feel like people decorate a little too much on Halloween. I go to school at Mark Twain Elementary. There is a house practically right in front of the school, and everyone sees it’s awful decorations, every morning while going to school.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 10/23/2013 - 11:52amTreat or treating in Carson City will be held on Halloween night, Thursday, Oct. 31. Just like it is celebrated throughout the country.
If you're a Carson City resident, the question as to when Beggar's Night falls on isn't a dumb one to wonder or ask since wrenches have been thrown into the mix every few years due to Nevada Day festivities.
Because Nevada Day sometimes falls on Oct. 31, there have been instances where the annual trick or treating ritual in Carson City has been moved up or down the calendar.
