Tonight was supposed to be the time to bundle up, put handwarmers in your gloves and gather family and friends to venture downtown to enjoy one of Carson City’s most beloved traditions and the official kick-off to the holiday season.

Good morning Carson City and welcome to the last day of winter. It is Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Expect mostly sunshine and cloudy skies today as a weather system is expected to move into the region later tonight bringing rain showers to the lower valleys and some snow to the Sierra for the first day of Spring. Here's what is happening around town today, including free admission to the Nevada State Museum.

It's "big-band jazz times three" when the Mile High Jazz Band, Carson High Jazz Band, and Carson Middle School Jazz Band present the 16th annual combined Jazz Extravaganza concert Tuesday, March 19 in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center.

It’s not exactly warm outside, but compared to some of the bitter cold we’ve had this month, it’s not that bad. Take advantage of the dry weather by joining in on the Parks and Recreation Easy Walk in John Mankins Park in Silver Oak. It’s a Jazz Extravaganza at the Community Center tonight. Mile High Jazz Band has teamed up with the Carson High and Carson Middle School jazz bands for their annual concert. The monthly fundraiser at Firehouse Subs makes raising money for Relay for Life as easy as ordering dinner.

It's "big-band jazz times three" when the Mile High Jazz Band, Carson High Jazz Band, and Carson Middle School Jazz Band present the 14th annual combined concert, the Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City.

We have some incredibly talented kids here in Carson City. The jazzier ones will be performing at the Community Center tonight with the Mile High Jazz Band in an extravaganza of music. Enjoy some of our valley’s views with the Parks and Rec Easy Walk along the freeway multi-use path. Dinner plans are easy; Mystique is holding a grand opening tonight downtown, so go see what deliciousness they have to offer.

William Street, Carson City. The event is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and the Carson City Band Association to benefit for Carson High Jazz Band programs.

Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson High Jazz Band present a free concert by The Commanders Jazz Ensemble from the US Air Force Band of the Golden West. The concert is a preliminary event to the "Jazz! Carson City" music festival, which will feature over 45 free music events this coming August.

It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Mile High Jazz Band presents the eighth annual Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Friday, January 21, 2011, 8:00 p.m., at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street, Carson City. The concert, sponsored by the Brewery Arts Center and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, is a benefit for the Carson High Jazz Band programs.

The summer sizzles and Sunday is no exception with Jazz! Carson City. The Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses, and jazz lovers proudly continue the annual August jazz festival that began in 2004. Admission is free, and parking at the garage on Stewart and Fifth streets is also free. Bring a picnic and blanket and enjoy the music.

There's lots of music and entertainment lined up for the weekend, not all in Carson City but certainly nearby. And, of course, the Jazz! Carson City festival continues.
Here's what you'll find this weekend:

— Genoa hosts The Old Time Music Festival in the Town Park Saturday. This is labeled as a celebration of American Roots Music and includes the Quake City Jug Band and banjo star Georgette Hall with her daughter Cecilia Yale. Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 11. Tickets are $5.
