Under Phase 2 people are once again able to enjoy working out somewhere other than their living rooms with the re-opening of gyms and fitness centers, and gym owners are stepping up social distancing measures to make sure everyone stays healthy.

The week is starting out with a spattering of snow, just enough to remind us how unpredictable our weather can be. It’ll make for a difficult morning commute but won’t be long-lived. For the last several months, the Galaxy Theater has been playing a movie from yesteryear on Sundays and Wednesdays. This week’s ‘Flashback’ is the disco classic ‘Saturday Night Fever,’ in all its polyester glory. For those interested in a nursing career, Western Nevada College is hosting an informational meeting that will cover what can be expected for those enrolling in the educational program. Now that spring is more or less here, Carson City BMX is back on the track. You’ll find their races on Sunday mornings, but Wednesdays are for practice.

A new week begins and brings us one day closer to warm weather. Karaoke night at the Fox Brewpub is an all-ages, family-friendly event, but all-day happy hour inside the Fox’ Den is meant just for the adults. Local theatre group, the Proscenium Players, have a few great productions coming these next few months; their monthly meeting is this evening at the Brewery Arts Center and anyone interested in theater or wanting to get involved is welcome to attend. Swing into the night with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club at Carson Lanes.

The annual Father-Daughter Ball at Carson High School is just days away. Tickets have been flying off the proverbial shelf, and you aren’t going to want to miss out. It’s just unfortunate timing that today has been designated ‘Nevada Moves Day.’ With the heavy rain, it may not be the best time to try your hand at walking or biking to school. A break in the storm this afternoon will make for an easier trek home, but you can always take up the challenge after Spring break next week. The annual Father-Daughter Dance at Carson High is fast approaching, and today is your last chance for in-person ticket sales. Head to the Carson High office between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. if you’ve got cash in hand.

Tiffani’s 5th annual Sealed Toy Drive has commenced with 17 drop off locations in and around Carson City. The "sealed" toy drive allows hospitalized children who have to stay in their room, or are unable to play with used toys, a chance to receive a small gift basket of toys and games to play with over the holidays.

Larson will serve in Chase's Carson Valley offices. She has previous working in real estate and has owned her own business, Carson City CrossFit.

Carson City CrossFit is celebrating its 5th year as a CrossFit affiliate today, Monday, April 18. Carson City CrossFit opened its doors in 2011, becoming the first CrossFit affiliate in Carson City.

Last week, Lief Larson was able to accomplish his goal of becoming a CrossFit Level 3 Trainer (CF-L3). After submitting over 1,500 hours of coaching experience and obtaining his CrossFit Level 2 Certificate, CrossFit Headquarters approved Lief to test for his Level 3 Certificate. He is only the fifth individual in Nevada, and the first CrossFit coach in northern Nevada, to be a Certified CrossFit Level 3 (CF-L3) Trainer. His other CrossFit certifications include CrossFit Powerlifting, CrossFit Mobility, and CrossFit Weightlifting.

Carson City CrossFit has added additional Ladies Only Bootcamp classes to their schedule beginning May 4. We now offer M,W,F 5:45 - 6:30 AM and M,W, TH 6:30 - 7:15 PM classes.

Carson City CrossFit is hosting a bootcamp for ladies only beginning Oct. 6, 2014. Achieve your fitness goals. We have designed a boot camp program for women of all levels of fitness, experience, and age. The program will empower you to do things you never thought possible while keeping you in your comfort zone.

There will be a fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 22, for Tiffani Barber, a Carson City area cancer patient, at Pizza Factory on Highway 50 beginning at noon.

Last year Tiffani was diagnosed with gliobalstoma, the most common and aggressive malignant brain tumor. She found herself at age 24 in the fight for her life.

Tiffani is well known in Carson City for her beautiful contagious smile and upbeat personality. She is a hairstylist at Salon Chocolat, a Crossfit coach at Carson City Crossfit, but most of all she’s a daughter, sister and a friend.

The Carson City CrossFit Future Athlete Sport Conditioning Summer Camp will run June 10 through July 12.

This will be for all youth athletes playing football, soccer, basketball, baseball, track, cross country, tennis, or want to get in to the Sport of Fitness, CrossFit.

The program will encompass strength training, sport conditioning, kettlebells, tire flips, plyometrics, and sprints. This program is designed for the young athlete to not only get stronger but get better conditioning in during the summer months.

Jamba Juice on Topsy Lane in Carson City will hold a fundraiser for cancer patient Tiffani Barber, Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Fifty percent of sales will go to help Tiffani and her cancer treatment.
