An 18-year-old Carson City woman was arrested at a local casino for minor consuming, possessing alcohol in public; false identification to avoid prosecution; and a felony juvenile probation violation warrant.

After three years of announcing the availability of scholarships to those who would seek to pursue a degree in hospitality, the Carson City Chamber was finally able to award a $1,135 scholarship to a very deserving student who has chosen to pursue a degree in hotel management.

UPDATE SUNDAY: Three vehicles were involved in Saturday afternoon's fatal crash on Highway 50 near Deer Run Road in Carson City. One person died. One suffered minor injuries. The name of the person who died has not been released. The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

First responders were called to a fatal vehicle accident on Highway 50 near Deer Run Road around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.

DAYTON, Nev. — The wind blew from the opposite direction and temperatures dropped in the second round of Stage One Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying at Dayton Valley Golf Club. And players felt the effect as scores rose higher than in the first round and the veteran players in the field took advantage.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including Hot August Nights Kickoff Rallies in Virginia City, history walks at Mormon Station Park, pickleball at the Carson City MAC, concerts at the Brewery Arts Center and TJ’s Corral, a Muscle Powered Sunday morning bike ride and more!

Flavors of India restaurant in Carson City will host a fundraiser Saturday for a local barber who was critically injured in a vehicle accident last month.

A fundraiser is being held for local Carson City man John "JT" Tomaroy, who was involved in a head-on collision while coming home from Las Vegas, and he is now in critical condition at Renown.

A "Show and Shine" fundraiser will be held to raise funds for JT and his family on Sunday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Seeley Loop of Mills Park, located at 1111 East Williams Street.

There will be raffles, food and music and awards for the top five. Registration is $20, and all proceeds will be given to the family.

A local barber, Brandon Baxter, who is training at Carson City’s Cipriani’s downtown barber shop was involved in a car accident last Tuesday, and a gofundme has been set up for his family while he is in critical care at UC Davis. He was returning home from barber school when the incident occurred.

Carson City Soroptimist will present grant awards to two women, and honor the achievements of local high school seniors, on Wednesday, May 22, noon to 1 p.m. at Glen Eagles. The meeting is open to the public, with prior reservations required.

As the school year comes to an end, the 2018-2019 Carneta yearbook staff can finally slow down and take a breath. At the end of the week before Spring Break, at 8:30 p.m., the final pages were submitted, and the book was officially finished. After months of interviewing, photographing, and editing, the book is currently being printed by Walsworth Publishing Co., in Marceline, Kansas.

Carson City Soroptimist will honor five Girls of the Month during its Program Meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 23, noon until 1 p.m., at Glen Eagles Restaurant.

This meeting is open to the public, with prior reservations required. There is no charge to attend, however a plated lunch with choice of entrees, selected in advance, is available for $16. For my 2019 Senior Project, a Carson High School graduation requirement, I chose to be the coordinator and director of the annual junior cheer camp because I want to increase my knowledge and understanding on how to put on a special event; I also desire to improve my personal leadership, communication, and delegation skills.

On Sept. 9, the Carson High School Senators Cycling team competed at Rattlesnake Roundup, a Hidden Valley race course.

The Carson Victory Rollers, Carson City's own hometown roller derby team, will play the Lockford Liberators Saturday afternoon, Sept. 1 in a bout doubleheader at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street in Carson City.

Bodie has long been a ghost town tourist destination, and though it might reside in California, we in Northern Nevada still claim its lore as our own, since we are familiar with all things that are spooky, cursed, and rich in Old West history. You’ll want to keep your outdoor activities limited when the air is like this, but it understandably leads to a feeling of cabin-fever. Success, lifestyle, memories: All these describe yearbook.

For the 2017-2018 school year, a staff of 47 was dedicated to making a memorable book for others to keep throughout their lives and be passed down through generations; and again the book received the Gallery of Excellence Award, in which the book is used as an example of a successful yearbook in schools and at conferences across the country.

Following a serious car accident in 2008 and two years later the discovery of a genetic predisposition for young onset Parkinson’s Disease, a career Carson High School teacher may have had to retire from the school district, but he has never stopped gaining and offering knowledge through his lifelong passion as an educator.

Eric Anthony Buhl was sentenced Thursday to life in prison for the March 2017 murder of a 2-year-old girl left in his care at a north Carson City home.

You probably realize that when your child becomes 18 years old, your child is a legal adult in Nevada. A recent article in the Wall Street Journal pointed out it is wise for the 18 year old to have some basic legal documents.

“Our hearts ache for all the families and individuals involved in the car accident in Kings Canyon. We learned yesterday from law enforcement that one of our students passed away. Throughout the day today, the administration at Carson High School has provided and will continue to provide, as needed this week, grief counseling and support for students and staff. As more is learned about a memorial service, we will pass that information along.”
