As the lead prosecutor, a District Attorney’s priorities are two: 1) justice and 2) victims. Only one candidate for District Attorney understands this, Mark Krueger. Mr. Krueger has experience. He successfully prosecuted dozens of jury trials involving the family of murder victims, sexual assault victims, and children victims.

Candidates for local, state and federal offices reduced their campaigns to three minute capsules Thursday at a PFLAG forum in Carson City.

Carson City, Nevada – The local PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) chapter is again sponsoring Candidates Night this Thursday, October 9 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at The BRIC (Business Resource Innovation Center), 108 East Proctor Street, Carson City. Lisa Helget, a city supervisor candidate in Ward 1, charged Wednesday the Nevada Humane Society began operating the city’s animal shelter without a Carson City business license.

The final forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, Sierra Nevada Forums, American Association of University Women and partnership Carson City will be held tonight, Tuesday, at 6 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the public is invited.

The forum features candidates for Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General. Candidates for Lieutenant Governor include Lucy Flores, Mark Hutchison, and Mike Little. Invited candidates for Attorney General include Adam Laxalt, Ross Miller and Jonathan Hansen.

Carson City’s two candidates for District Attorney sparred over delays in prosecuting sensitive cases, victim services and other issues at the League of Women Voters candidate forum Monday night.

Candidates for the Carson City District Attorney’s race, Assembly District 40, and Senate District 16 are featured at Monday evening's campaign forum, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center.

The forum is hosted by the League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, Sierra Nevada Forums, American Association of University Women and Partnership Carson City. The public is invited to attend.

I am a fourth generation Nevadan. I have lived in Carson City for thirty-five years, where I raised my two daughters. Both are now college graduates.

I'm a retired emeritus awarded college professor of business and
economics from Western Nevada College, where I taught for almost
thirty years here in Carson City.

I graduated from UNLV with bachelor degrees in Accounting and Political Science, and an MBA in Business and Economics.

Monday night will be the first of a series of election forums hosted by The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, Sierra Nevada Forums and American Association of University Women. A candidates forum will be held Thursday.

For the first forum, ballot issues will be presented. Ballot issues will be addressed by presenters stating the positive and the negative for each item. Issues to be covered include the Mining Tax and Education Initiative, also known as the Margins Tax, and the Question 1 Appellate Court issue.

There are a number of upcoming candidate events through September. The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in conjunction with Sierra Nevada Forums and American Association of University Women, has announced a series of election forums to be held Sept. 22 through Sept. 30 in Carson City.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has seven openings for entry level game wardens, most of which are in rural Nevada duty stations. This is the largest recruitment of game wardens in NDOW’s history.

“The agency has experienced several retirements and some turnover in the last few years,” said Tyler Turnipseed, Chief Game Warden at NDOW.

The Carson City Leisure Hour Club begins its 118th year with a presentation by Iker Saitua, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Nevada, Reno. Born in Algorta, Basque Country, Iker will discuss Basque history in a presentation titled Becoming Basque-American: Basque Sheep Breeders and their Ethnic Legitimacy in Nevada (1890-1959).

The Leisure Hour Club, established in September of 1896, is Carson City’s oldest continuously operating social organization. Its goal is promoting knowledge on important issues, science, music and literature.

State senate candidate Gary Schmidt has filed a countersuit against his opponent in today's Republican primary, state Sen. Ben Kieckhefer, R-Reno.

Kieckhefer first moved their campaign into the courtroom by filing a defamation lawsuit against Schmidt last Friday.

A Washoe County District Court Judge Friday ordered Gary Schmidt, Republican candidate for Senate District 16, to stop running an ad in his campaign advertising in which his opponent said was not true.

Judge Patrick Flanagan issued a preliminary injunction halting the broadcast of one of Schmidt’s advertisements until further hearings could be conducted on a defamation lawsuit Senator Ben Kieckhefer filed based on what he said was a false attack.

Senate District 16 covers Carson City and southern Washoe County.

This in reply to Mr. James O. Hartman’s letter to the editor in the May 21st issue of the RC. Mr. Hartman, I will address you in the first person in this reply. Facts are stubborn things.

Let me be clear that I draw a parallel to your reporting in the RC opinion page with what in the 30’s was called yellow journalism. Use of the journalism in the same sentence with your name does a disservice to journalists everywhere even those in the mainstream.
