Bring something for the ducks if you join in the Easy Walk at Ross Gold Park. Five years ago, our community suffered a great shock when four people, including three National Guardsmen, were the victims of a shooting attack at IHOP. The annual remembrance run begins at 7 a.m., so please be cautious when driving along Fairview this morning.

TUESDAY:

The long weekend lets us hold onto summer a little bit longer. Enjoy an interfaith community picnic on the lawn at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Bring something to share, your plates and utensils, and something for the F.I.S.H. food drive. Watch out for playa dust. Where has the time gone? We are moments away from Labor Day weekend with its Best of the West Rib Cook-off, monthly Downtown Wine Walk, Fallon Cantaloupe Festival, and Virginia City’s Civil War Days. Enjoy a walk in the Ronald D. Wilson Memorial Park, just west of Emerson Drive. Canyon White, the award-winning singer-songwriter, can be found at her weekly gig at Living the Good Life joined by Keith Alan Barnett. Dance it up: swing at El Charro, country line dance at Carson Lanes, or square dancing in Genoa are on the table.

Welcome back, Wildcats. Western Nevada College kicks off a week of festivities at today with some free donuts and pizza. Those not headed back to school might be headed back to the Playa: Burning Man has begun, so keep your eyes peeled for some crazy looking cars on the road. A new exhibit featuring local high school artists can be found downtown in the Community Development building next to City Hall.

Grab your cape, mask, and special side-kick and head to Tumbleweeds Gymnastics in Minden for their Superhero 5/10K. Hunt for underwater treasure at Sand Harbor with the High Desert Divers, all divers and snorkelers are invited. The Ferrari Hill Climb continues today in Virginia City if you feel the need for speed. Galaxy Theater brings another movie classic to the big screen today. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘The King and I’ 60th Anniversary Event plays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

SUNDAY:

The kids deserve some fun for surviving their first week back at school, and Carson City delivers. The first annual Northern Nevada Family Fun Day takes over Mills Park with music, a kids zone, activities, food, raffles, and much more. Check out the Bowling Blast Off at Carson Lanes for a Car Show, bowling specials, and fun. Once the sun sets, Washoe Lake State Park offers a basic astronomy lesson and some celestial viewing. It’s a ducky day to be a dog. The Nevada Humane Society’s annual Duck Race and Festival in downtown Reno raises funds for our area shelters and gives one lucky duck the chance to win a car. Splash Dogs at Heritage Park in Gardnerville has one last day of competitions for some talented pooches. SUNDAY: Jazz and Beyond Music Festival Final Day

Are you ready for the new school year? One last weekend of summer break before the kids of Carson City head back, so make the most of it. Jazz and Beyond takes it up a notch in its final few days with eight hours of non-stop music downtown. Western Nevada College new soccer team plays its first home game today against Folsom Lake Community College. Friday has arrived and it’s bringing with it a valley full of good times. The sixth annual Hopefest Concert and Fundraiser at Carson Tahoe Hospital kicks off at 5 p.m. Enjoy food trucks, live music with the Waybacks, and more at the free, family friendly event. McFadden Plaza is where you’ll find Jazz and Beyond’s concert with the Jackie Landrum Band, Living the Good Life is serving up a performance by Prey for Son, or take the stage yourself at Carson Lanes’ karaoke. The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West has returned and will be at the Community Center tonight, if you were quick enough to grab free tickets from the Chamber of Commerce. Join the ladies of Muscle Powered for a mountain bike ride through beautiful Ash Canyon. Hear the stories and legends of the Washoe People in their native language with translations into English at the Carson Valley Cultural Center. Continue on for even more to do.

Carson kids have one last week to lay about, while their neighbors in Douglas and Lyon County are headed back to school. Jazz and Beyond continues with some fun times downtown. Holy busy day, Batman! Carson City is abuzz with options. Art lovers won’t want to miss out on the Diversity Invitational Photography Show opening tonight at Mystique downtown.
