Spring break week is winding to a close, and it’s ending on a soggy note. More of the wet stuff is on its way, but don’t let that stand in the way of a good time. Laugh it up with magician and comedian Brad Bonar Jr. at Carson Comedy in the Nugget. Break a leg to the Proscenium Players. Their spring production, ‘Bus Stop,’ opens tonight in the Brewery Arts Center Black Box Theater. The whole family is welcome at the DHS Boosters Bingo Night at Dayton High tonight; help them raise funds for this year’s Safe and Sober Grad Night.

FRIDAY:

Today is a day to give big. A one day fundraising drive for our favorite non-profit charities is happening right now, whether it’s animals, arts. Kids, veterans, or the environment. Thursdays also mean a fun night at Jimmy G’s Karaoke. The Trippin King Snakes help celebrate everyone with a March birthday at the Cigar Bar (AKA Carson Cigar Co.) If you have a two wheeled mistress, the Bike Night at Battle Born Harley may be up your alley.

THURSDAY:

Smack dab in the middle of the week, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing going on. Sierra Nevada Forums presents something new to think about every month: for free, and featuring prominent experts on the topic. Join them tonight for a discussion on ‘Water is for fighting, Whiskey is for drinking.’ Let Ev Musselman sing you a song at the Max Casino or enjoy something jazzy at Living the Good Life. Cupcake Wars at the Carson Library are a good way for the teen on spring break to try something different.

WEDNESDAY:

I hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine while it was here, more rain is on the way. Take those spring-breakers to a movie; Galaxy Theater rewards members can enjoy $6.50 movies all day today. Sip something yummy at the Courtyard by Marriott during their wine tasting and open house. Normally the Carson City Photo Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month, but due to a scheduling conflict, the meeting is tonight. Dues are only $15 a year and you’ll get the chance to enter their monthly competitions: this month the theme is ‘Winter.’

TUESDAY:

The first day of spring is here, and while it may not mean the end of the snow, it is a harbinger of longer days ahead. Carson kids and the students of Western Nevada College have a reason to celebrate – spring break is here. The State Legislature has an exhibit on display celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women in the Military, in addition to several works of art by Nevadans, so make a special trip to check it out. The High Sierra Swing Dance Club meets every Monday at El Charro Avita for an evening of dancing and learning something new.

Bet your bottom dollar that it will be a great weekend. Wild Horse Children’s Theater finishes up its spring production of ‘Annie, Jr: The Musical,’ so don’t miss your chance to catch these talented kids on stage. Muscle Powered will be out and about for their monthly Trash Mob and invite you to help clean up a little corner of our valley. The Annual Polar Plunge at Zephyr Cove is a brave way to help the Special Olympics raise money, and the costumes get wilder every year. Keep reading and enjoy the weather before the clouds return.

SATURDAY:

Irish eyes are smiling on us: it’s going to be a gorgeous day. You won’t have to look far for some green beer, whiskey, or corned beef – there will be St. Patrick’s Day parties all over. Live music is on the menu, as well. Choose from Men of Worth at the Brewery Arts Center, an all ages punk show at Sassafras, or Stereo Galaxy in the McFadden Plaza, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The brave ones will be at the St. Baldrick Fundraiser at Red’s Old 395 where you’ll see some heads shaved for a good cause. Where ever you end up, just make sure you have a plan to get home safely.

Now that the sun has come out, the month is just flying by. St Patrick’s Day is tomorrow, with the first day of spring on Monday. Find some new art to love at the Artsy Fartsy Artist Meet and Greet. With two story times and Lego Club today, the Carson Library has your little ones covered. Treat yourself to dinner out and lend a hand to the Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation with the Give Back Event at Chili’s. Get that chopper out of the garage and head over to Battle Born Harley for Bike Night with beer pong, pool, and more.

First known as the Ides of March, today is also ‘Veteran’s Day’ at the State Legislature. Brian Sandoval presides over a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at 9 a.m., and even more is in store at the Legislature, including a BBQ. It’s also Nevada Moves Day, which means you’ll see a lot of school age walkers and bicyclists on the sidewalks. Reward your family with a movie at the Library tonight: The BFG is fun for all ages. Three point one four. That silly number gives us the secret of the circle. And it sounds like 'pie.' Let's celebrate 'pi day' with some jazz and poetry dedicated to math and baked goods with the Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee tonight. Oh, this morning is going to hurt. Adjusting to Daylight Savings Time is always a little rough, and this Monday gets going one hour earlier than usual. The Father-Daughter Dance at Carson High is on March 31, but don’t wait until the last moment for tickets. Grab them in the High School Office between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Grab some friends and head to Carson Cigar Co. for Game Night: Cards Against Humanities, Apples to Apples, and Jenga are just a few of the offerings – it changes every week.

Our favorite red-headed orphan sings that ‘the sun’ll come out tomorrow.’ Luckily we don’t have to wait: for the sunshine or for the Wild Horse Children’s Theater’s production of Annie, Jr. You’ll find the musical at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall this weekend and next. Kids are welcome to make a free craft or decorate a St. Patrick’s Day Cookie at Genoa Candy and Coffee. Go on an ‘American Road Trip’ at the Plaza Hotel as part of their Mike Thompson Lecture Series. I’m still looking for some springtime, and these next sunny few days might just do the trick. Take a break from the workweek with something fun. Who has two thumbs and is ready for spring? This girl. Monday starts off with some icy roads so please give yourself some extra time to travel. It’s going to be quite a blustery day, but hopefully we’ve seen the end of the wet stuff for a little while. Start the week off with some fun. You can swing dance the night away at El Charro’s, sing the workweek blues at the Fox Brewpub’s karaoke night, or help Sassafras welcome guitarist Ian Moore to the stage.

What a great start to March. A few days on sunshine under our belt and now it’s wine walk weekend. With fingers crossed, the weather should hold out until it’s over, but be prepared for some wind. The Shrine Circus is in Reno, Girl Scout Cookies are on sale, and we inch closer to the longer days and shorter nights of Spring. You’ll find something for everyone this weekend, whether looking for fun with friends, your little ones, or your special someone. Take a look, and have a great weekend Carson City.

The sun is shining on Carson City and all sorts of fun is blooming. It’s a great day for the kids with the Kerak Shrine Circus in Reno, cookie decorating at Genoa Candy and Coffee, and a Father-Daughter Dance at Dayton High School. Show some love to Carson High Senior Amber Reeves: she’s displaying her photography at the Brewery Arts Center for her Senior Project. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for clear skies, but there are rumors of snow flurries. Luckily there are indoor and outdoor activities, no matter what blows our way. At the top of the list for today is Winter, Wine, Spirits, and All That Jazz at the Brewery Arts Center. Their annual fundraiser is not to be missed.

Even if the weather doesn’t agree, there is a spring thaw in our midst. Carson City is picking up the pace, and there’s fun to be had all over. You’ll always find a great comedian at the Carson Nugget on Fridays: this week it’s funnyman Steve Bruner. Head to Sassafras for a fun time with Sacramento indy band, Poindexter. We’ll wake up to sunshine, but some snow may be in the cards this afternoon. Please drive safe when it’s slick out. ‘Our Story, Inc.’ takes you on a tour of Black History in Northern Nevada in the foyer of the Legislature; they’ll be on hand at the Carson Library this evening for a special Black History Month Celebration. Get a jump on spring cleaning and lend a hand to the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program. You’ll find their clothing drive at Red’s Old 395 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Show off your skills at Retro Replay if you fancy yourself a Smash Bros.
