More than 25 local community service providers will line the hallways of Senator Square for a community fair beginning at 4:30 p.m. The fair will highlight Carson City activities, family friendly events and provide information and screenings for a variety of local health services.

Carson City School District to offer preschool at Boys and Girls Club

The Carson City School District has partnered with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada to house a new Pre-K (preschool) classroom at the Carson City clubhouse located at 1870 Russell Way. Twenty students between the ages of 4 and 5 will receive full-day instruction this school year Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Boys and Girls Clubs in Carson City unveil Mike Frezzo Tech Center

The Frezzo family of Washoe Valley honored their son and brother Mike, who passed away from esophageal cancer in 2014, by presenting a naming gift to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada to establish the Mike Frezzo Tech Center for Club members ages 5 to 12.

Katie Leao, chief professional officer for the Club, said the Club’s tech lab had not been updated for over 8 years. The gift includes new furniture and 30 new Chromebook laptops, similar to those used by the Carson City School District.

Carson City Toyota Scion extends Boys and Girls Club Community Challenge donation drive

Dick Campagni, a long-time donor to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, has extended the deadline for the company’s dollar to dollar match up to $10,000 in the Campagni Toyota and Scion Community Challenge to April 30. The program was originally expected to end on April 1.

“We feel it’s important to give back to our community, particularly our youth,” Campagni said. “We believe in helping kids, and the Boys & Girls Club is a great organization to partner with to keep our kids safe.”

UNR names Kerri Garcia Director of Communications at the University

Kerri Garcia, an award-winning public relations and communications professional, has been named Director of Communications at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Garcia will lead the University’s efforts in internal and external communications, media relations and will serve as the institution’s primary spokesperson.

Garcia, a 1992 graduate of the University who previously was Community Relations and Communications Manager with Microsoft in Reno, begins work on April 1.

Carson City teen wins state title at Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of the Year competition

Autumn Cuellar, an 18-year-old Carson High School senior, earned the title of 2016 Nevada State Boys & Girls Clubs Youth of the Year in Las Vegas Thursday, Feb. 18, competing against club members from Las Vegas, Mason Valley, Reno and Elko. Cuellar won the local Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada competition in January.

Entrepreneurship program sets Carson City youth on career and educational pathway

Paul Klemm is a true success story. At 18 years old, he has already figured out that hard work, self-discipline and problem solving are the keys to controlling his life. How does one so young know so much about success?

Area teens compete in Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada’s Youth of the Year competition

Family, safety and confidence were the topics of the day as three Carson City teens competed in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada’s Youth of the Year competition on Friday, Jan. 8.

Carson High School senior, 18 year old Autumn Cuellar, and freshman Natalie Ontiveros, 15, and McKenzie Malone, also 15, delivered speeches discussing what the Club means to their lives before spending over an hour meeting with members of the judging panel in private interviews.
