Known for churning out the classics from the 1970s and 80's, Baker Street has developed a loyal Northern Nevada fan base, with its guitar-driven licks and crisp vocal stylings. There's no better way to celebrate summer than with music that rocks to it.
The Firkin Friday's outdoor concert is at 310 South Carson Street. There will be plenty of food, barbecue and drink specials going on inside.

Some used the opportunity for a three-day weekend to go get a little R&R in: go to the beach, take a break, spend time with friends and family, and unwind. It’s what happens on Tuesday, after we come back to the reality of our lives, businesses, ups and downs, that can be confusing — the post-vacation blues.
Food Truck Festival Saturday at Carson Valley Inn

The Carson Valley Inn will host the Valley Food Fest this Saturday, May 31, from noon to 8 p.m. at the TJ's Corral Outdoor Events Center in Minden. A variety of food trucks serving up everything from gourmet to all-American standards plus desserts and other treats.

Plans for Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music Festival underway

Last year, the Jazz and Beyond Festival featured 60 performances and over 100 performers, and organizers hope to match that accomplishment this year. Most performances are presented free to the public. Beyond jazz, the festival included bluegrass, blues, mariachi, and more.

In the music industry, there is often a preference to try and quickly define an artist and his music by placing him in one or two genre categories. The problem is a preconceived model doesn't fit someone like Dwight.

The band has rocked the Northern Nevada and California Blues circuit for the past 10 years opening for acts such as Joe Bonamassa, Kenny Neal, Lydia Pense, Tinsley Ellis and Tab Benoit.
The band mixes original blues-based songs featuring Kim and Buddy belting out traditional as well as original blues based tunes, with their fun High Energy show for the whole family.

A favorite performer on the Cowboy Poetry circuit, singer-songwriter, poet and working cowboy Beck is touring in support of his album “Tribute,” which showcases original horse songs written through the years, raising money for The Joyful Horse Project, a non-profit organization based in Austin, Texas that pairs combat veterans with rescue horses being trained for rehabilitation.

Carson City 'Beat the Flu Blues' campaign a success
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 07/15/2013 - 9:34amCarson City Health and Human Services is pleased to announce the success of the 2012–13 Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Community Outreach Campaign, “Beat the Flu Blues.”
The agency conducted 69 community vaccination clinics that provided more than 10,700 influenza vaccinations throughout the quad-county area of Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties. Our local clinic provided an additional 1,259 flu vaccinations. In all, CCHHS increased the number of flu doses given during the 2012 season by 10 percent.

Growing up in Compton, Calif., Jordon may have spent more time listening to the old guys who were gathered on porches playing music than he should have, a fact he’s quick to say he’s not proud of.
