Wednesday, May 13: Things to do in Carson City
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Wed, 05/13/2015 - 6:14amGet over the mid-week hump with some live music. Dave Leather will entertain with some lunchtime Americana and Blues at Comma Coffee. The weekly Jazz Jam at Sassafras will see Rick Metz and his group First Take. Enjoy the tunes at Living the Good Life, Z Bistro, or Glen Eagles during dinner. Work up an appetite at the annual West Side Cruiser Tour: an easy four mile, family-friendly ride that leaves from the Brewery Arts Center. Find a costume, decorate your bike, and have a great time!

I Love Carson City's Mother's Day Weekend Event Summary: May 9-10
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Fri, 05/08/2015 - 5:55pmHappy Mother’s Day, Carson City! Several family friendly events are occurring around town this weekend. Take a ride on the McKeen Motor Car at the Nevada State Railroad Museum or the Ferris Wheel at RSVP’s Spring Fair and Carnival. A Harmonica and Strings Concert at Empire Elementary School showcases what some of our talented students can do. Get up early and head over to the Carson City Airport if your youngster has any interest in planes: Young Eagles flights are happening today if the weather permits.

- 23rd Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive (leave your donation of non-perishable food items at your mail box for mail carrier to pick up)

Wednesday, May 6: Things to do in Carson City

Head to the Firkin and Fox this afternoon and join the Nevada Craft Brewers Association to toast the 2015 Legislative session. Sample Nevada´s finest craft brews, mingle with the craft brewers and enjoy live music with the Trippin King Snakes. Keep the good times rolling with even more live music at Sassafras, Living the Good Life, or Glen Eagles.

The movies created by George Lucas made celebrities of most all the actors involved, but today you can enjoy a little time with some celebrities of a home-grown nature. Bike Month in Carson City always features a Celebrity Bike Ride: past years have had the mayor, city leaders, officials, and other notables. Meet up at Telegraph Square for a short ceremony celebrating an award from the League of American Bicyclists for a Bicycle Friendly Community and the many new trails recently built in our valley.

Sunday, May 3: Things to do today around Carson City

Come on down and take a ride on the Edwards Motorcar Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Rides are $4 for Adults; $2 for Children ages 4-11 and museum members; and FREE for Children ages 3 and under. The first Sunday of the month always sees a pancake breakfast at the Elk’s Club; let them take care of the cooking and clean-up!

I Love Carson City's Weekend Event Summary: May 2-3

Chili on the Comstock is hosting their inaugural Fun with the Runs 5K Saturday at 10 a.m. The 1926 Edwards Motor Car is running, too, and ready for rides at the Nevada Railroad Museum. The wine walk is always a good time, and with Mother’s Day next weekend, it can’t hurt to peruse the shops before you run out of time to pick the perfect gift.

Kick off Bike Month with the 8th Annual Tour of Carson
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Wed, 04/29/2015 - 7:43pmJoin Bike Habitat and Muscle Powered for the Eighth Annual Tour of Carson City bicycle ride this Sunday, May 3. Signups are at 9:00 AM, ride begins at 9:30 AM. The ride will begin and end at the Bike Habitat, and tour around the perimeter of Carson City for a moderately paced 27-30 mile bike ride.
This is a free event, and lunch will be served for the riders back at the shop after the ride. Donations and memberships are encouraged to support Muscle Powered of Carson City to promote a more bike friendly community.

'Tahoe Talks' lunch series continues Wednesday
Submitted by editor on Fri, 03/13/2015 - 1:22pmA Tahoe Talks Brown Bag Lunch Series recently launched offers a monthly forum for people to discuss and learn more about ways to strengthen communities, make towns safer for bicyclists and pedestrians, and help protect Lake Tahoe’s amazing natural resources.
Lunches are held monthly at ≈. They cover topics ranging from transportation to the economy and the environment, and offer a comfortable, low-key setting for people to discuss and learn about those issues. The events are free to the public.

Ride your bike down and enjoy a classic bicycle movie with free popcorn, food and drink specials while you watch the movie, fun movie trivia, swag bags, and a lot of great raffle prizes including gift certificates and bicycle accessories! It’ll be fun for the whole family.

Child suffers minor injuries in bicycle crash with vehicle at 5th and Roop
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 05/16/2014 - 3:38pmA 10-year-old on a bicycle suffered minor injuries after an accident at 5th and Roop Street, according to Carson City fire and ambulance crews on scene. The accident was reported at 3:20 p.m. A Care Flight air ambulance was not needed.
Bike to Work Week Party 2014

You really couldn’t ask for better weather here in Carson City for encouraging people to get out on their bikes. Last night we had 94 adults and 29 children signed in for our Westside Cruiser ride, and the miles and trips are really starting to rack up for the Bicycle Commuter Corporate Challenge. To say thank you for all your hard work, we’re going to throw you a street party!

Created by northern Nevada artists, these trikes will be for sale starting Saturday, May 4th from 12-5PM during the downtown Wine Walk. A portion of the sales will go to benefit Muscle Powered, Citizens for a Bikeable and Walkable Carson City. Here’s a look at what was parked out front of the Gallery on Friday.

In honor of National Bike Month, Muscle-Powered, Citizens for a Walkable and Bikeable Carson City has developed a full schedule of events for 2013, including the Tour de Carson May 5- a 30-mile bike ride for more advanced riders, along with two Family Cruise rides, one on May 15 at 6 p.m. starting at Telegraph Square, and a second Ride with a Vet on May 18 in conjunction with Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Next month is Bike Month and there are plenty of activities planned in Carson City. We kick off on April 24 with Nevada Moves Day at the State Legislature.
Muscle Powered is organizing exhibits in the front foyer of the legislative building highlighting Nevada groups working for better walking and biking. Participants include the Reno Bike Project, Safe Routes to Schools, the Carson Valley Trails Association and more.
