Capital City Community Band's annual 'Support the Band' concert to feature vocalist Stephanie Gansberg

We invite you to a special concert of the Capital City Community Band this Sunday, Jan. 28, 3:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church on the corner of Division and King Streets, Carson City featuring vocalist Stephanie Gansberg. This is our annual “support the band” concert, a free-will donation will be accepted to defray the costs of music, rentals, insurance and other band expenses.

$10,000 reward offered in Elko County moose poaching case

Individual and groups have come forward to generate reward money in the amount of $10,000 for information that would solve a crime in which an adult moose was illegally killed 20 miles southeast of Jarbidge in Elko County.

Updated Nevada Day Parade line up list and map

Here is an updated parade list for all the entries in the Nevada Day Parade on Saturday. Note, there was a last-minute change in streets where the entries are supposed to line up that is different than the printed program. The change was made to accommodate some larger floats. Pike illegally reintroduced again at Comins Lake, $10,000 reward offered

With the discovery of illegally planted Northern pike in Comins Lake, the Nevada Department of Wildlife is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the prosecution of the person(s) responsible. Conviction for this crime would be a misdemeanor, but the crime also carries hefty civil penalties that can reach into the tens of thousands of dollars.

Nevada wildlife officials makes difficult decision in effort to save remaining healthy bighorns

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has taken necessary actions in the Montana Mountains in Northern Nevada in an effort to save healthy bighorns in the adjacent Nevada and Oregon mountain ranges.

The decision was made to depopulate a herd of California bighorn sheep due to an ongoing and aggressive outbreak of polymicrobial pneumonia that has caused an all age die-off in a once healthy herd in the Montana Mountains of Humboldt County.

Thank you everyone for participating in the 6th annual Carson High Safe & Sober 5k Run/Walk. We had a great turn-out with 104 sign-ups and 88 participants. The weather was the best it’s been for the past five years – even after many inches of snow earlier in the week!

BSA Troop 33 to Host the 2nd Annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser

BSA Troop 33 is excited to announce it will be hosting its 2nd Annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser on August 15, 2015 at Carson City’s Fuji Park.

The Show will be from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; award ceremony starts at 3 p.m. Registration is $40 per entry. There is still time for pre-registration or you can register on the day of the event. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, one lunch meal ticket, and a dash plaque.

5th Annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk a Success

The 5th annual CHS Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk was a tremendous success with turn-out of 113 participants. The weather cleared up this morning and with just a bit of wind at race time, we couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather, maybe even a sunburn.

Fish in Nevada without a license this Saturday

If you have been trying to figure out a way to get the kids off the computer and out of the house, then the Nevada Department of Wildlife has a plan, and here’s the best part: it’s free.

Nevada Free Fishing Day is Saturday, June 14. On Free Fishing Day anglers may fish in any public fishing water in the state without a fishing license or trout stamp. All limits and other regulations apply.

Gov. Sandoval appoints Lake Tahoe ski industry stalwart, Reno basketball team partner to Tourism Commision

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval on Tuesday appointed John Wagnon of Vail Resorts and Herb Santos, Jr. to the Nevada Commission on Tourism. The terms are effective immediately.

Wagnon, a 40-year veteran of the snowsports industry, is senior director of brand marketing for Vail Resorts, Inc at Heavenly Mountain Resort south shore Lake Tahoe and Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

He has served on the on the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, Ski Lake Tahoe and the California Travel Industry Association boards. Wagnon is also a trustee and past chairman of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board.

Bighorns vs Gold Sox: Series tied at 1-1

The Nevada Bighorns will be taking on the Marysville Gold Sox at 7pm tonight. The 4 game weekend series is tied at 1 game apiece. The Bighorns won the first game on Friday night with late game heroics, 8-7. The Gold Sox came back last night shutting out the Bighorns 6-0.

Bighorns win in Marysville

The Nevada Bighorns improved their record last night to 10-11 by beating the Marysville Gold Sox 8-7 behind a masterful game at the plate by Adam Anderson who went 4 for 5 with 3 singles and an RBI double in the ninth that scored the eventual winning run when Sean Costella crossed the plate.

The Bighorns had solid pitching as well, Jason Sirak went 5 2/3 and Matt Blaemiere grabbed the save by finishing out the game for Nevada

Nevada Bighorns Baseball: Carson City's Summer Baseball Team

The Bighorns have shown that this year's team is among the best that they have had in their history. Bighorn player Jeff Young told me over the fourth of July weekend that; "this is our best team we have ever had."

Bighorns Baseball splits DH with the S.L. Ports

CARSON CITY- The Nevada Bighorns baseball has seen a split season and Saturday afternoon was no different. The visiting S.L. Ports (from San Leandro, CA) were able to salvage a split with the Bighorns on the Saturday double-header at Governor's Field. Game 1 belonged to the Bighorns winning 7-2. Three home runs sailed over the fence for Nevada, hit by: Corey Metoyer, Cam Young, and Chad Schryer.

Bighorns set for another summer season

The Nevada Bighorns summer collegiate baseball team is gearing up for another season in which the Carson City-based club will again bring high level play to the area.
 
The season is less than a month away with opening day set for Saturday, May 29. The Bighorns will host the San Francisco Seals at 5 p.m. at John L. Harvey Field. The Bighorns will then play a doubleheader against the Seals, beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 30, at John L. Harvey Field.
