Carson City Cops and Kids Open House set for May 22

Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host the 7th Annual Cops and Kids Sheriff’s Open House safety, crime and substance abuse awareness fair on Saturday, May 22, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, 911 E. Musser Street, Carson City.

Cops and Kids Sheriff’s Open House was started by Sheriff Ken Furlong as part of the community policing efforts implemented by his administration.

Nevada Commission on Tourism launches summer ad campaign

CARSON CITY — Nevada is launching a new summer ad campaign aimed largely at the massive online and television markets to entice visitors to the Silver State, Lt. Gov. Brian K. Krolicki, Nevada Commission on Tourism chair, announced this week.

“Our goal is to convince spring and summer travelers that Nevada is their best bet to experience an unforgettable vacation for outstanding value,” Krolicki said. “We’re taking our ads to the busiest marketplaces, where potential travelers spend the most time and are more likely to be influenced.”

Carson City Fire Department plans May 2 evacuation and shelter drill

CARSON CITY — An evacuation and sheltering exercise for the residents of the Old Clear Creek Road subdivision will be from noon to 4 p.m. on May 2, Carson City Fire Department officials announced today.

The evacuation drill in the southwest part of Carson City is being carried out in conjunction with Nevada’s 5th Annual Wildfire Awareness Week. The intention is to remind residents and homeowners that the area is within a wildland fire environment and therefore all are encouraged to protect their homes and community from embers that can attack dry brush and trees during a wildfire.

Pinwheels for Prevention

Advocates to End Domestic Violence, in conjunction with other agencies, will be placing pinwheels on the legislative lawn on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 1:00 pm . This is part of Prevent Child Abuse Nevada’s statewide, “Pinwheels for Prevention” campaign. The Pinwheels will remain in place for the following week.

Tourism commission to expand and brand in updated Nevada visitor strategy

The Nevada Commission on Tourism has updated its strategic plan for attracting visitors, combining cost-effective new initiatives and time-tested programs with proven track records, Lt. Gov. Brian K. Krolicki said Tuesday.

The agency (http://travelnevada.com) will target U.S. consumer markets that have large populations with convenient driving distance or easy air access to Nevada and international markets whose travelers have a strong likelihood of visiting Nevada, such as Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Germany, said Krolicki, Nevada's tourism commission chair.
