Capital City CIRCLES Initiative to host substance abuse prevention night

Initiative, a cooperative community effort to elevate people out of poverty, invites members of the community to participate in a colloquy on the topic of preventing substance abuse. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 26 at 6:45 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church’s Family Life Center located at 115 N Division St.
Lyon and Storey Coalition meets Thursday at Silver Springs Community Center

The public meeting is on Thursday, Jan. 10, 9 a.m. at the Silver Springs Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Street in the Lahontan Room, on the left side of the building that also houses the Senior Center.
Dayton 5K Race Results Announced
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 05/23/2011 - 4:05pmDayton’s first Healthy Communities Coalition 5K Walk/Run on May 14 attracted 50 contestants, plus 20 volunteers from Stand Tall and Dayton Task Force. The 5K fundraiser for Stand Tall’s youth leadership teams and Dayton Resource Bank resulted in $811 for the two local youth programs.
The event was a fun way for the community to exercise and to join together for two good causes. Organizers Lavurne Jeffreys and Star Erickson said they look forward to making this an annual event.
