Plan To Move Nevada Primary Closer To General Election Likely To Face Tough Road In Legislature Next Year
Submitted by Nevada News Bureau on Tue, 05/22/2012 - 12:21pmCARSON CITY – A proposal by Assemblyman Pat Hickey, R-Reno, to move Nevada’s primary election back to September to shorten the campaign season didn’t get out of the starting gate in 2011.
The Assembly Legislative Operations and Elections Committee held one hearing on Assembly Bill 157, which had cosponsors from both major political parties. But it also saw serious opposition from state election officials and never came up for a vote.

Carson City unemployment rate drops to 11.8 percent

March unemployment in Carson City was 12.4 percent.
It is the first time in three years unemployment statewide has been less than 12 percent.

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 05/16/2012 - 11:18amOn May 9 through May 12, six of us were on a fun-filled, four-day, outdoor adventure way over in Eastern Nevada. The six were: Bob “Slick” and Lynda McCulloch and Elaine and I, all of Carson City, plus Sal and Catali Quilici of Dayton.
We went to the Ely area to fish some of the waters in that part of Nevada because five of us (Sal, Catali, Slick, Elaine and I) are entered in the Ormsby Sportsmen’s Association (OSA) annual fishing contest, and we were hoping to catch any of the following fish:
Rainbow trout or brown trout at Illipah Reservoir,
Rainbow trout or brown trout at Cave Lake,

More than 70 cars were on hand for the five racing divisions on the 3/8 mile clay oval, with an additional nine Outlaw Karts racing on the small infield track.

Lucky Gamblers Help Push Nevada’s Gaming Win Down In March

The decline was led by Clark County markets, including the Las Vegas Strip, which was down 14.9 percent over March 2011.
McKeen motor car to ride the rails for National Train Day
Submitted by admin on Thu, 05/10/2012 - 6:27amCelebrating National Train Day, the Nevada State Railroad Museum’s historic 1910 McKeen motor car will ride the rails from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12 in Carson City.
Now a stellar attraction for rail enthusiasts and family fun, the McKeen Motor car operated from 1910 to 1945 racking up more than a half-million miles between Reno and Minden. The prestigious car became a diner and an office but was rescued by the museum when it was donated by the Bernhard family of Carson City in 1995.

Genoa Trail System Grand Opening May 12

- Rick Ozzy North, 22, a Kings Beach resident, for possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to sell. Bail has been set at $10,000.
- Timothy Patrick Lawson, 35, a Fresno, Calif. resident, for possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to sell. Bail has been set at $10,000.
